Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.
But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the partys leader, as some have predicted.
I think that she is going to be a significant player, said Gingrich during an interview on CBSs Face the Nation. But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. Shes not going to be the de facto leader.
Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

Do we even know if she has aspirations for the White House? Big commitment. Lots of ass kissing and fund raising. Does she want to go through that and put her family through all of that? This would be far more than just a few months on the ticket as VP nominee.
She should follow Reagan’s path. Give speeches, refine her conservative message. McCain really had no message or plan and that is one of the things that sunk him.
Bam!
Recalling Oliver North’s candidacy in 1994, I’d suggest to you it’s not that Freepers can’t read but that RINOs and countryclubbers have short memories. Gingrich didn’t help and we ended up with Chuck Robb again.
Well it wont be Newt.
Gingrich is a horse’s arse. His predications are 68% correct about 22% of the time. He blew it big in the House thanks to his overstretched ego. However, that same ego now demands that he play the role of spoiler — and his rancid fingers leave their mark everywhere. Ye Gods, the sclerotic Republican Party needs new blood!
I trust Palin and I like her politics but she’s not what I see as dynamic presidential material.
Thats a good point.
We need a solid Ideology more that a leader right now.
We didn’t pick McCain...the Republican leaders picked him! Along with the democrats. We need a closed primary. I can’t get the GOP Chair in AL to respond to my concerns about an open primary.
Newt is as clueless as he was in 1998 after being deposed as House leader.
Just another has been blowhard!
BTW, Obama still doesn't have a message or plan.
What baggage specifically?
Newt wouldn’t say it.
So they just pretended he did.
And idiots believe them anyway.
What Baggage?
The best place for Palin IS IN ALASKA...fighting for the right to utilize the assets of the state...oil and gas...She needs to arouse the people of the state to go after the environmentalists and their phony hit list.
Michael Gun ban Steele?
Comments like his, and those of various worthless unnamed staffers reveal why the party is in shreds.
***I agree. At least Newt had the courage to go on record. That sets up a future battle where the unnamed RINOs support Newt, which could prove interesting.
“20 or 30 significant players”,
And one Saracuda circling.
Newt for head of G.O.P.? Forget it. Same ole same ole b.s.
Time for new Republican leadership of lose conservatives for good.
His message was hope and change. Granted there was nothing behind the smoke screen, but he packaged and sold it.
