McCain-Obama Meeting Set in Motion by Graham

The upcoming meeting between President-elect Barack Obama and his one-time rival, Sen. John McCain, was set in motion during a phone call over the weekend between Obama and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), McCain's closest friend.

In an interview Friday, Graham said that Obama requested the meeting during a 20-minute phone call that the South Carolina senator described as a "pleasant" discussion about how they could work together effectively.

"We just talked about the desire to find something meaningful to work on," Graham said. "He was very nice to me, said that he considered me a serious, reform-minded senator that he could do business with."

Obama knows he is ON THE DOWNLO since 46 million Americans did not vote for him. But the big mistake he is going to make is to think that Juanito can get these 46 million on board. A vote for McCain was an ANTI-OBAMA vote far more than it was a pro-Juanito vote.

Anyone know what cabinet slot Juan is going to get offered???

There’s an old Southern term that describes Grahamnesty: scalawag. He’s about as Southern as a bowl of cold instant grits.

I guess we can add 2 more votes to the dem side of the Senate.

Nope, can't "add" them, they're already there ... have been for some time now.

I don’t think I want these guys working together.

Somehow, I think I might not benefit from such an alliance.

This is starting to look more and more like that post-election South Park episode, except instead of stealing the Hope Diamond, they’re conspiring to steal my property and rights.

"If the administration wants to move forward with immigration again, I stand ready to do that," Graham said.

Aides to Obama said the meeting with McCain is likely to be a broad discussion about those issues where the two men agree.

For FReepers who have been saying that Obama is for amnesty and McCain has come to his senses and opposes it, perhaps this will come as a shock.

Graham tried to come off as the voice of reason during the impeachment hearings. All he did was help prevent us getting to the nexus of Clinton crimes, and allow those days to trivialize all the bad stuff Clinton did: trading muclear technology to China in exchange for campaign money at the top of the list.

McCain, Grahm,Liberman....

Of the three, I have respect for Lieberman. I don't agree with him but I think he's closest to being a statesman in D.C.

I’ve come to the realization that RINO’s are actually R’s. Like it or not the party is very much about big government. What we think are exceptions are the rule. How many Republicans even hint at taking the government down to its pre-FDR size? Name more than one. When it comes to taxes “conservative” Republicans talk about tax cut that will bring in more revenue for D.C. Or tax reform (”Fair Tax”, flat tax) that will be revenue neutral. Never a tax cut that will starve Washington. Face facts. You never win if all you ever play is defense.

It galls me to think that I drove to DC to honor him in the aftermath of impeachment.

Thankfully, there were others who didn't go down the same path.

I'm sorry he made it to the Senate.

Must be about the amnesty bill that all three of them are obsessed with. Nobody who loves this country would ever suggest amnesty or open borders - the biggest threats to this country. The planes on 9/11 did not take off from Iraq but from American soil.

The ONLY good thing about Barry being President is McCain won’t ever be President.

I’m pretty sure I saw on TV that Crist is getting married fairly soon...I think it was sometime in the next month...

But then again, if the Governor of New Jersey could pull it off, I see no reason why the Governor of Florida couldn’t as well...

McCain did not run a good campaign, and is no longer considered to be anything worthy of trust.
