McCain-Obama Meeting Set in Motion by Graham

The upcoming meeting between President-elect Barack Obama and his one-time rival, Sen. John McCain, was set in motion during a phone call over the weekend between Obama and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), McCain's closest friend.

In an interview Friday, Graham said that Obama requested the meeting during a 20-minute phone call that the South Carolina senator described as a "pleasant" discussion about how they could work together effectively.

"We just talked about the desire to find something meaningful to work on," Graham said. "He was very nice to me, said that he considered me a serious, reform-minded senator that he could do business with."

Guys - this is going to be a meeting that further plots out the division of the Republican Party for the years to come. McCain, Lieberman, Graham, Collins, Coleman, etc all will provided a blanket of cover to keep the party center-based and push out the Conservative wing. Actually this will be a good thing for the Conservatives and open up an opportunity to create a new party.

"The press, the dems,McCain and his camp, are going to try to say that McCain is the ‘leader’ of the republican party now"

You hit the nail on the head! McCain will return to his position of most beloved republican in the country.

But it was Lindsey who voted against the one article of impeachment that would have stuck.

“I guess we can add 2 more votes to the dem side of the Senate.”

Replacing Graham and McCain with a couple of more Dems does not change the alignment!

Remind me how many votes short of cloture the Democrats are. I can see a lot of "bipartisan" asshattery coming down the pike. "We will give you commie-care if you give us amnesty for 20 million more of My Friends [in the faint hope that 5% of them will vote R]." "$20 billion more for Iraq will get both of us to agree to give you support for..." Bet on it. This is how Washington works for the Main Street Partnership.

Recall for a moment a period in McCain's past. There are perfectly good reasons to send out feelers beyond the GOP - feeling up the Democrats because the GOP is "too conservative" is NOT one of those reasons, and we should never forget who made those very overtures not that long ago. I cannot discount the possibility of such a coup occurring right now, and it would be absolutely crippling thanks in large part to "our" own conduct during the primaries. And don't think for a moment that McCain would remain hated in the media for his mere opposition to the Messiah (and his selection of Palin for running mate - his two mortal sins, according to the MSM) - just like every other time he acted in opposition to the GOP, the media would again paint McCain as the maverick, pragmatic war-hero - now one who wants the office of the presidency to enjoy a period of greater unity and blah blah blah. You can read the headlines before they are even written, knowing how small a leap in imagination this entails.

Show me a person who would be shocked, and I will show you someone who hadn't tuned in to politics prior to March 2008.

Obama, McCain discuss how they could work together effectively.

I just heard the words of Eddie Anderson who played the part of Rochester on the Jack Benny show, only this time it's the white guy saying, "Whatever you say, boss."

I knew Graham was a rat like McCain’s pal Crist. Crist and Graham are both single men. They could always rush off to CT and marry.
