The Republican Party will file federal lawsuits Thursday seeking to overthrow the McCain-Feingold federal campaign finance regulations, Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. "Mike" Duncan revealed Wednesday night at a private dinner with the nation's Republican governors.
The move is considered a slap in the face of the Republican Party's failed 2008 presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who was dramatically outspent by Democrat Barack Obama, and of President Bush, who signed McCain-Feingold into law in 2002.
"We will bring two federal suits tomorrow to strengthen the Republican Party," Mr. Duncan told The Washington Times.
Mr. Duncan said one suit will be filed in the District of Columbia to strike down the soft-money ban that is the central tenet ofthe McCain-Feingold Act - formally known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002.
The second suit will be in a Louisiana federal court to strike down the limits under the law Mr. McCain co-sponsored with Sen. Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Democrat, that control coordination between parties and their candidates.
"It prohibits us from spending over $84,000 in coordination with a candidate in a congressional race," Mr. Duncan said. "That means we have to find some group to raise and spend money but without any coordination" with the candidate, his campaign or the RNC.
"That does not allow for a unified message," he said. "We don't think there is anything corrupting about coordinating with a candidate."

If they hadn’t signed onto it, they wouldn’t need to sue to overturn it.

It had no moral compass once it selected that feeble, ego-driven RINO to be the nominee. With this move, it’s getting it’s moral compass BACK.
Figured this one was coming. Looks like someone at RNC HQ finally got educated. Now if we we can just get Duncan out and bring in someone whose got a pair.

I kind of enjoyed seeing McCain’s own rules bite him in the @$$.
Bush could have vetoed McCain-Feingold. Maybe he assumed the courts would declare it unconstitutional, but it was a stupid decision to sign it.
Um... word out to the idiots running the GOP... McCain hurt the party in the election. First, by being...well... John McCain. Second, he CHOSE to go with public finance - thus got outspent 5-1 in many areas.
While I completely agree that CFR is an absolute waste of the paper it is inked on - and is a violation of the Constitution - don’t blame it for McCain’s loss.
So, if you want to dump the law, then do it. There are plenty of reasons, and a Constitution that says it is wrong. But don’t use lame excuses. After all, CFR would not have passed without Republican votes...

As much as I hate what America has become in the last few weeks, I am able to enjoy the irony of this, despite it being long overdue.
I thought the soft-money ban was upheld by the Supermes in "McCONNELL, UNITED STATES SENATOR, et al. v. FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION et al." in 2003.

Remember this guy was appointed with Martinez to do the daily work of the RNC while Martinez was in the Senate and he now wants to chair the RNC! He was for amnesty and is responsible for the state of affairs our party is now in to a great extent.

It bit McCain more than his opponent because his opponent declined to abide by it once he found out he could make and spend way more by eschewing public financing. I don’t think even little Barry expected the amount of donations that rolled in from here and abroad. I think he expected McCain to be rolling in corporate lobby dough and himself on a shoestring.
Throw out the whole thing.
Neither John McCain nor his anti-Constitution McCain-Feingold act ever had anything to do with a moral compass in the first place. Opposing both is awesome.
