"The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start."
Doesn't this violate the 13th amendment?
I can’t help but believe there are a lot of folks on here that should be getting involved in politics locally. I have the desire but have no idea where to start.
We need some folks with some brass to get in the ring and fight for this country. I prefer to do it that way than with swords and muskets (effective weaponry in the age of nukes), but I think most of us are prepared to do it however the fight is brought to us.

I’ll bet they REQUIRE the “service” by making it a condition of GETTING social security checks....or TUITION cuts, etc......MAKES ME SICK....FORCED volunteerism is an oxymoron...
No... you creat more government programs.... that are required by tax payers monies.. with unions that require tax payers to pay for- by law.

yeah instead of community service, why not have more time to teach real math such as Singapore and Kumon?
Start locally....do research on the up and comers in your community who are CONSERVATIVE....start a CLUB....find a way to funnel money to the CONSERVATIVE ones.....Start visiting your local Republican office....it’s a place to start....but, watch out for the RINOS

My only concern is that it’s too late to get far enough in to make any difference. The grass may be ripped out by its roots by the time any of us could get a grip on it.

I don't know. I'm torn between wanting the idiots who supported Obama having to reap what they've sown, and not wanting to see good kids subjugated by the state.

It’s slavery, pure and simple. Forced labor, sanctioned by the state, with no compensation. How ironic is it that the first black POTUS would inflict slavery upon the nation?
I think you’re saying that the federal government will take over the states. Maybe you’re meaning the same. I just mean we become subjects of the state (in a federal sense) and it’s no better than Nazi Germany (complete with our very own cell shared with 300 of our closest friends in a very swanky prison camp).
