President-elect Barack Obama has vowed to reverse or sharply modify many of the Bush administration's policies. Based on his campaign promises, here are some key areas where changes are expected.
Foreign policy * Defense Obama pledges to withdraw US combat troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office. But when and how he extricates troops from Iraq may depend on a security pact with Iraqi lawmakers, who are pressing to have all US forces out of the cities by next summer, and out of the country by the end of 2011. In Afghanistan, Obama has said he would add about 7,000 troops to the US force of 31,000. Pentagon officials are poised to more than double that increase - saying they need 15,000 to 20,000 more troops in Afghanistan.
* Diplomacy Obama will inherit foreign policy challenges involving Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. He has said he would place a premium on diplomacy over the use of force to solve disputes, and his stated willingness to talk with leaders like those in Iran, Syria and North Korea, may result in increased diplomatic activity in areas including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
* Terrorism The Justice Department will reexamine all surveillance, interrogation, and detainee policies to see whether any should be changed. Obama has said he wants to close the US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, meaning he must decide whether terror suspects held there now should face military or civilian trials if they are moved to US jails. Obama advisers say he may review the department's newly approved guidelines that could let the FBI investigate Americans in national security cases without evidence of a crime, based in part on their ethnicity or religion.

All of them bad.
They left out creating a civilian domestic paramilitary ‘security’ force for getting around Posse Comitatus.
Asspress can’t wait to crow.
They are treading carefully. None of the foreign policy or security decreases will cause a ruckus unless we are attacked again.
The rest of the stuff is a lot of spending with probably little returns.
Obama is inherently very cautious and with the fawning media, he will get a free pass his first 2 years.
*sigh*, I don’t know if the republicans can differentiate themselves especially with our leaders “forced” to be “bipartisan.”
Obama, the community organizer, should take credit for bringing Chicago to the highest murder rate in the country.
To boot the idiot is telegraphing his war strategy to our enemies.
Obama will do what the “powers that be” (Namely those who own MSM) want, to a large extent. After all, they basically own him since they put him there. I noticed a lot of news clips from strange places, Obama’s Indonesian madrasa, his Kenya Granny.
They no doubt have all the real goods on Obama documented and ready to use if Obama doesn’t obey their will.
It’s not government that runs this country, MSM does.
According to the Globe article, Obama promises a dramatic shift toward developing alternative energy, does he? Didn’t he also promise, in January, to use fines and penalties to bankrupt anyone who might attempt to build any new coal-fired electricity-generating plant? And as to immigration, also covered in teh article, will ‘Bammy be forced to deport his illegal-alien, deportation fugitive aunt, Zeituni Onyango, who, with the help of local community organizers, lives in a Boston “public housing estate”?
“Obama says he wants to eliminate the harsher sentencing guidelines for people convicted of crack cocaine crimes in relation to powder cocaine.”
Is obamination an addict?
FIRST he must make the human sacrifices to his god. FOCA first.
Talking about taxes. It is not just the repeal of the Bush Tax Cuts that will occur. The concept of removing the ceiling on income taxable by Social Security from the current 90K+ figure to infinitey. So a young Internist earning 200k is going to see SSI take a bite out of another 100K so another 6200+ in SSI. My guess is they will require that of Employers as well. That will be real good for a struggling company like Ford or GM. V. David Hanson noted the Marginal Rate number and it was scary (again I was interrupted).
Many dual or even single income professionals that voted in anger against the Bush years have no idea the financial $h!+ storm they rained upon themselves....
No, that's the "get out of jail" card he's flipping to the brothers doing hard time.
We will see them presently. Probably in our front hallways, holding shotguns.
I heard yesterday (ABC TV News I think) that Obama got a thick split among the upper incomes, and even got majorities of some, d/o how you slice up the income cake.
"Marry in haste, repent at leisure."
They need to have special, readily identifiable uniforms... Maybe ones with lots of gold braids for the big parade on May Day.
McCain told Obama he would be willing to help him and serve him.
Here is where it will in.
Just watch. It will happen.
We better form an alliance of strong willed Conservative Republican Senators and conservative Democrats vulnterable on this issue, to stop Obama/McCain.
My brother in law fits this description to a "T". Very motivated by money. I just emailed him a link to an article about the Democrats are planning to take everyone's 401k's away.
You forgot “Barack Obama plans to ban all semi-automatic rifles and all handguns within the first two weeks (the new NFA). He plans a $10,000 transfer tax on all sales of new NFA weapons made before 3/20/2009. Also, all concealed carry permits are made invalid.
Just read that Osama Bin Lady’s driver is up to be released on 12/31— we’ll see how many terrorists are pardoned by b hussein
Where’s my damn check!
