WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.
"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer," Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility."
Dunham helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

I heard Auntie Z. disappeared into a taxi today carrying a duffel bag. I wonder if she'll ever be heard from again.
No examination because the death was attended by a physician, the H-Examiner article states.
Could because she was already dead when he went to see her last Thursday.
Absolutely NOT true. Of 10 people I know in the last 5 years or so that died of cancer, only 1 died in any planned sedated way. That was my mother in law last year. OTOH, I know 2 people that died in the last 5 that died of colon cancer, the most painful way of all to die. Neither one planned anything. One was my best friend, the other my ex-mother in law. Both were an inspiration of how not to be afraid of death.

Obama learned of her death this morning. It sure didn’t slow him down on the campaign trail. And I’m sure the press release timing right before the nightly news was purely coincidental.
Hmm. Same city the ACORN office was raided by federal agents.
No, but in that case they turned his service into a partisan circus. People didn’t feel sympathy watching that.

My mother, 82 today, has made it clear in no uncertain terms that she wants no extraordinary measures. Although her basic guidline leaves a little wiggle room. If there's a *good* chance she'll get better, then do the treatment. Otherwise, make her comforatable. As it happens she has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer that spread to her lungs after her masectomy. The treatment appears to be working, and it has caused her no side effect problems. Turns out that breast cancers are one which respond quite well to this treatment. The only thing I wonder about is why they didn't give her a round of it right after the surgery, instead of waiting until the metastized fragments started causing problems in her lungs.
So, we will have Barach Hussein Obama in the White House and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, visiting him. Ugh!
I thought the same thing...my neighbor had emphysema, and at the "appointed time", his wife, at the direction of hospice started giving him morphine every fifteen minutes. He was begging her to stop, but she dutifully kept it up from 8:15pm to 11:15pm which was when he very shortly thereafter took his last breath.
Sorry to hear this news, but it IS sorta . . odd in a way.
One would have to be a drama queen to vote for Obama, frankly.
Senator McCain has also lost his own grandma and grampa and understands how Barack O. feels.
So he knew when he gave McCain the bird earlier today.
And just think, he had the SS outside guarding the door, while he had all the time he needed to go thru her papers and collect his REAL birth certificate.
