Romney says Obama is not a socialist

While John McCain's campaign has tried to tie its Democratic rival to socialism, one of the Arizona Republican's top surrogates said Barack Obama is not a socialist.
McCain's campaign had seized on Sen. Obamas statements that he plans to spread the wealth around and sought to tie the Illinois Democrat to socialism.
But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), while arguing that Obamas economic plan is a job-killer, said Monday on CBSs Early Show: You know, I dont think Barack Obamas a socialist. I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took. I think the idea of having the government take over healthcare and raise taxes on employers is the wrong direction for the country.
Romney, who was the GOP surrogate tasked with appearing on all of the morning talk shows, also said both candidates are terrific men, when asked if the country would be in good hands if the Democrat is elected.
Ill be very concerned about the economy for the country. Ill be concerned that the economy will be in a slow-down or a recession for a longer, deeper period, Romney stated. I'll be concerned about long term, about a president who would raise taxes on businesses and, if you will, through this intimidation, impose unions on small businesses.

“is what you get socialism or just a mucked-up capitalism?”
I think you get socialism. Capitalism requires free markets. If you don’t have free markets, you don’t have capitalism. Socialism is simply an economic system that seeks to substitute the political process for the market system. You could say that “mucked up capitalism” and socialism are the same thing.
That, by the way, is why socialism doesn’t work as well as capitalism. Political processes are inherently slower, less efficient, less accurate, and more arbitrary than market processes. In fact, that is the criticism that socialists use against capitalists. The markets adjust so quickly to changed economic conditions, that you have crashes, disruptions, etc. in a capitalist system.
The corresponding criticism of socialism is that it doesn’t necessarily EVER adjust to changed economic conditions. You can’t get away with the wasteful misuse of funds from the financial industry to fund subprime mortgages forever in a market system. At some point, the market refuses to accept more, and that’s it. If it were a socialist system, the politicians would be the ones who would have to make that decision, but they would insist that the money keep flowing.

Romney is giving McCain the same kind of support that McCain gave Bush.

Interesting point, but Romney has not been at all vindictive and has been all over the place supporting McCain. He missed the birth of his most recent grandchild yesterday. I can't picture McCain doing that.

You are probably right.
But what is wrong with calling a socialist a socialist?
Too often Republicans play nice until the 11th hour. Then they contemplate a Democratic victory and pull out all the stops. Democrats have slipped hard edged (and false) attacks into their mix for eight years. Republicans call a socialist a socialist at such a late date that it can appear desperate. And then, for clarity’s sake, they say he isn’t a socialist.

Neither Palin or Romney need to stoop to the level of name calling, but both have pointed out repeatedly how Obama's policies smack of socialism. Does it QUACK like a duck??!!

Can't say I am surprised about the double standard and special attacks reserved only for Romney though. < P>Sorry; but WE did NOT put the words in his mouth!

Whatta maroon! No, Obambi is no “socialist”, but he is a crypto-communist, neo-marxist, and a subversdive, and apparently, it takes a bigger brain than Romney’s to see the evidence, and to understand that. The dumb Stupid Party should have set the campaign in the panic mode a long time ago, instead of this niceness to a stalin wannabe.

You should check your Bible before you criticize the LDS church for practices that are found in the Bible. There are a LOT of 'practices' found there; many that are FATAL!
This one failed the test of time...
You want 'practices' found in the BIBLE as well as the BOM?
TRUTH IGNORED
Smith, Young, Taylor, Pratt, Snow, Kimball, Woodruff ...
1 Timothy 3:2-3
2. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3. not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
1 Timothy 3:12
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.
Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 2
24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

"Trying to tie" Obama to socialism is like "trying to tie" Elton John to "gay".

Mitt has got to go; he should be ostracized from the party. Remember the quick and vapid convention speech? Looked like he was doing a forced impersonation of Patton.
He's a naraccistist bad stabber.

Here is where it started...
Acts 2:44-47
44. All the believers were together and had everything in common.
45. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
46. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47. praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Here are the problems it created...
1 Timothy 5:8
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
...people were taking advantage of the 'system'.
Read the whole chapter.

>>There are a LOT of 'practices' found there; many that are FATAL! This one failed the test of time...Now you are claiming God's word "failed the test of time".
2 Samuel 12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
I take "Thus saith the Lord" to mean the opposite. That it didn't "fail the test of time"
The BoM quote gives the answer as the Bible speaks both for and against more than one wife.
Jacob 2:30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
It is an if then statement in the BoM interesting that you only highlight the second part of the clause.
