With their candidate working to catch up in the polls just days before the presidential election, John McCain’s campaign team has given less attention than its Democratic rivals to drawing up lists of potential Cabinet appointments and White House staff members.

Previous reports have indicated that McCain’s transition team, headed by former Navy Secretary John Lehman, has given particular attention to the area of national security, but may not be as far advanced as Barack Obama’s team in actually slating names for specific administration positions.

May the Governor could than replace him with an actual republican in the Senate.

“State: Bolton”

Great suggestion. That would certainly make some Foggy Bottom buttholes pucker. :)

I’d say don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. Plenty of time to speculate on cabinet...once he wins.

Ben Nelson should be appointed Secretary Of Agriculture. He actually has expressed a desire to have it in the past.

With the GOP so weak in the Senate, Politico's list of appointees includes Republican Senators.

Yeah, right. McCain is so mercurial that I think it a poor prospect to predict what he will do. Consider his VP pick.

I had heard Joe Lieberman for some sort of high cabinet position. I know Joe is loyal to McCain, but he is Ind/Dem. Perhaps an ambassordship for him.

Let’s not forget Oliver North people. He belongs in a high profile cabinet position. Of course, the Senate Confirmation will be tough for him, but wouldn’t he be great as National Security Advisor or even Secretary of Defense. I’d vote for him.

I would stick with Gates as SOD and go with Mitt for Treasury.

I was a supporter of Mitt to get the VP nod prior to Palin being named and themn thought he'd make a great Secretary of the Treasury but the recent alleged sniping and sowing of dissention by his surrogates regarding Palin, presumably to undermine her and better position him for 2012, if true, eliminate him from contention in my mind (and McCain will know if those allogations are true).

Makes my skin crawl to see Lindsey Graham mentioned for multiple positions.

Not me. Put Graham somewhere insignificant, and then let Gov. Sanford of SC appoint a conservative to take his place in the Senate.

"Put Graham somewhere insignificant, and then let Gov. Sanford of SC appoint a conservative to take his place in the Senate."

That would take the bad taste out of it a bit.

I think that McCain should put his old friend Fred Smith in a Sec Treasury. He’ll get the money moving in the right direction.
