Authorities at the University of Kentucky are trying to find out who hung an effigy of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on campus.
College spokesman Carl Nathe said it was found hanging from a tree Wednesday morning. Police immediately took it down.
School President Lee Todd says that he plans to personally apologize to the Obama family on behalf of the university and that he is "personally offended and deeply embarrassed by this disgusting episode."
It's the second time an effigy has been found on a college campus recently. Earlier this week, George Fox University in Oregon said it was punishing four students who confessed to hanging a likeness of Obama from a tree.
It might also be interesting to see what the difference in reaction would be to an Obama effigy being hanged, and one with a cigarette and a blindfold.

Just like the police in West Hollywood took down that effigy of Sarah Palin...oh wait... “
Exactly! Last night on CBS they showed the Palin effigy...no one at CBS or the police thought it should be taken down...it was NOT a hate crime....
My brother lives and works in Lexington. He just now told me about this. He says US Marshals and Secret Service have already come to visit.
Here’s the link from UK’s website.

Hanging Obama in effigy = hate crime.
A Federal Hate Crime.
I’m sure all those in the Justice dept that donated over $250,000 to the 0bama campaign will not be motivated to investigate ‘infractions’.
You couldn’t make this stuff up in a suspense novel.
The one hanged in effigy wasn't a white, pro-life Christian woman....I'M OUTWAGED!!!!
They don’t like it, do they.
It’s called the FIRST AMENDMENT you Communist ‘tards.
President Comments on Campus Incident
Media Contact: Tom Harris, (859) 257-1933
(LEXINGTON, Ky - Oct. 29, 2008) - UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. sent the following message to all faculty, staff and students regarding a campus incident:
Unortunately, this morning an effigy of Senator Barack Obama was discovered hanging in a tree on campus. I am personally offended and deeply embarrassed by this disgusting episode. This is not reasonable political expression; it is just malicious. And it is unacceptable.
On behalf of the University of Kentucky I apologize to Senator Obama and his family. I will personally assure them that this is not who we are as a University or as a state.
As President of the University of Kentucky, I feel outraged and hurt. I am outraged because we work very hard, every day, to build bridges across the divides. Diversity and inclusion are among our most precious core values. Episodes like this serve only to erode our confidence in and respect for one another.
Regardless of your political opinions or the candidates you support, a University such as ours must be a place where spirited discussion can take place, but within the bounds of civility, common sense, and respect for the views and feelings of others. We have insisted - and we will continue to insist - that we as a University and as a state rise above hatred and acts of malice or ignorance. The line separating civil discourse from unacceptable behavior has been crossed, constituting a clear violation of the Universitys code of ethics, and possibly constituting criminal acts, which would also violate University regulations. Such acts will not be tolerated. Those found responsible will be subject to the full force of university, state, and federal rules and regulations.
There is an on-going investigation into this incident, which includes federal authorities. If you have any information that would assist in this investigation you have a responsibility to contact the UK Police Department (859-257-1616).
Halloween trick. Nothing more.
Now if he’d been fire bombing the RNC convention or the homes of McCain-Palin supporters, it wouldn’t even rate a national news story. SERIOUSLY.
Meanwhile hollywood continues to allow their bigots and hatemongers hang Palin effigies. We can not allow the haters to destroy this country. Obamer must not be allowed to steal this election.
Welcome to the Animal Farm. All animals are equal. Some are more equal than others.
“The difference between the Palin hanging & Obama is that the law considers the Obama hanging as racist because he’s black (historical precedence.”
Which just goes to show how stupid the sheeple are to think that there is no historical precedence in white people being hung, that a noose is considered as a symbol of racism is just ridiculous. People of both races and sexes have been hung all through out history. The Salem witch trials (all whites) come to mind as an example of mass hangings.
The double standard results in this (bold emphasis added) item about hanging Obama in effigy. Excerpt from wtvq.com/news

Crime against the state to be critical of Fearless Leader.
Meanwhile I'll bet the words "Bushitler fascist republican" were uttered at least once on campus in the past 8 years.
Did the Mayor of West Hollywood apologize to Governor Palin and her family? Nah, I didn't think so.
That's exactly what I said, too.
