Hollywood insiders rip MSNBC, defend Palin
Reuters ^

Posted on 10/27/2008 7:11:28 PM PDT by Chet 99

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a room full of television industry executives, no one seemed inclined to defend MSNBC on Monday for what some were calling its lopsidedly liberal coverage of the presidential election.

The cable news channel is "completely out of control," said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday's luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed "Hollywood, America and Election '08."

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC -- and other media -- has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

"We should stop the demonizing," she said, adding that Democrats have been worse than Republicans as far as personal attacks on candidates are concerned. "It diminishes us," she said of her fellow Democrats.

Bloodworth-Thomason even suggested a defense of Palin and her supporters should be written into TV programing, just as she went out of her way to portray Southern women as smart in her hit TV show "Designing Women."

Keith Olberman is a very disturbing, and probably disturbed, individual. I've watched his level of rage increasing lately.
Who Knows....He's probably a druggie...(on coke and/or cocaine....or some other drug...a "love crush" on OBambi! :)

“Oh sure, it’s a week before the election and these liberals are FINALLY admitting the coverage is as left as it can go. Where have they been!”

"Homaseck shuls"

yes! you do remember correctly... the characters were so funny... Anthony always walking in when the gals were talking pms and stuff... and the way Charlene would pronounce Mary Jo... more like, "Mare-Jo." and how Charlene would talk about silly things that had nothing to do with anything...

Wow. They finally figured out that as purveyors of a product that it might be an unwise business decision to offend and write off half of the electorate, the entire south, Christians, and people in traditional families?

Will wonders never cease?

Ratings and box office totals for liberal productions must be dropping dramatically.

Yes, and those of us who were in FreeRepublic during the clinton years wondered what would happen to FR when the long night ended and a Republican cleaned out the White House.

Well, FR is still here, and perhaps more important than ever. These have been 8 very interesting years in the forum under Bush.

I’ve never seen “Designing Women” in my life. Not once.

Well, when the program first began, I watched it a few more times than once. But I'm a woman - a mature woman who detests back-biting and put-downs.

Some of the dialogue was quick and stinging criticism of men, to which I saw no point - certainly no humor.

Now, if "Soap" were re-runs, I'd gladly watch those.

The PUMAs never quit sending out messages. They have PUMAs working in all the Battleground States for McCain along with the other Dem groups for McCain. They know Obama stole the election from Hillary in the primary via the caucus route. I watched the videos of documented fraud by the Obama camp. Even here in Norman I saw a Democrats for McCain bumperstrip before we had any for McCain.

What got me the most was the older black lady who marched with Dr. King. She was in Indianapolis and stopped at a polling place where she saw an older lady start come to a poll and two thugs asked her if she was supporting Obama and since she wasn’t they told told her she couldn’t vote and then there was an older couple that happened to. Shows the Obama camp for what they are — vote for him or your vote won’t count.

Those are powerful videos referenced above.

When Sarah Palin was named and then the media went after her so bad, these PUMAs became even more against the media and Obama. Who would have thought the head of NOW in LA would endorse Palin. Obama has caused a huge rift in the Dems with his tactics.

Now by “smart,” I don’t refer to a person who is wily or calculating or nimble in the way of certain talented athletes who we admire but suspect don’t really have serious brains in their skulls. I mean, instead, a mind that is thoughtful, curious, with a discernable pattern of associative thinking and insight. Palin asks questions, and probes linkages and logic that bring to mind a quirky law professor I once had. Palin is more than a “quick study”; I’d heard rumors around the campaign of her photographic memory and, frankly, I watched it in action. She sees. She processes. She questions, and only then, she acts. What is often called her “confidence” is actually a rarity in national politics: I saw a woman who knows exactly who she is.
thanks, for the post....and insight. :)

Nothing to see here. Bloodworth hasn’t forgotten Chris’s long-standing malevolence toward Bill and Hillary for dissing his former boss Carter and, on top of that, is further cheesed off over the way Chris steered MsNBC’s attitude regarding Hillary’s campaign.

I loved “Designing Women” as well. I did have a grudge for years about Dixie Carter’s role as such a liberal but was very happy when I learned Dixie is a conservative.

Here is an example from the Newsletter that just came out and is filled with items like this:

Democrats For Principle Before Party
From The Denver Group
Make Your Voices Heard — Help Run Powerful Ads
At the end of the Democratic Primary season, this was the situation:

Popular Vote
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: 17,857,446, (48.04%)
Senator Barack Obama: 17,584,649 (47.31%)

Pledged delegates
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: 1,730.5 (39.17%)
Senator Barack Obama: 1,747.5 (39.55%)

Then, for no apparent good reason, in June Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosis decided THEY, not the delegates chosen by the electorate and not the superdelegates appointed via proper party procedure, were going to decide who would represent the top of the ticket for the general election. Now that same leadership wants YOU to legitimize their undemocratic and unprincipled methods by putting their selected candidate into the White House on November 4.

But WE can say no to the subversion of democratic principles within the Democratic Party. We can say no with our votes and by urging our fellow Democrats to pay attention to the particulars of the candidate Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi selected to represent the Democratic Party.

Put this ad on the air and let America know that our voices count. youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch

Over the next 24 hours and across the internet, we as a community will urgently be raising money to run edgy and persuasive ads in key battleground states. Generous contributors have pledged $500 in matching funds. Your voice counts. Please contribute now- Or go to Democrats For Principle Before Party - The Denver Group’s general election website, where you can view other ads the group is running: http://tdg.typepad.com/democrats_for_principle_b/

Luntz predicted a Barack Obama victory and said that one of the many reasons the Democrats have been more effective with their message is because, while Republicans dominate talk radio, Democrats have begun to dominate the Internet.

They dominate the internet? Huh?
