PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.
Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.
Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.
The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.
That's my fear, too. If it happened, this guy needs to be found fast. But if it didn't, I don't think we should be giving it extra publicity. For one thing, I think we're creating a self-fulfilling prophecy if we do that, setting up an expectation of violence, and the other thing is that it makes us look hysterical.
I heard the lefty blogs are saying she did it to herself.
it was outside of the surveillance area
Gawd. TOTALLY IRONIC the attack occured on ‘LIBERTY AVENUE’.
Ugh.
“”Wromg, when you shoot, you shoot to KILL.”
No, you’re wrong. You shoot to NEUTRALIZE.”
Yeah, I shoot to neutralize the lawyer who is going to sue me if I shoot the perp in the kneecaps, so that means that the perp gets at least one .44 to the head and none to non-vital areas that could cost me a lot of money if I had to replace them.
What I do is just feed " GOODY," my Irish Setter, a few butter coated HP 357 bullets and collect them later. The HPs are nicely filled.s/
The gun stinks a little after I touch off a few rounds.s/
And I never draw a gun on anything unless I mean to kill it, and that includes an attacker. I don't give a fine feathered fart what any instructor might say about it. Political correctness has even invaded shooting vocabulary.
If I want to neutralize something, I take it to the vet.
"Neutralize" will not save you in court by disproving you have the intent to commit homocide. The issue is always whether such homicide is justified or accidental.I get a kick out of those who think they can evade killing by neutralizing.
If you can't kill in self defence, put the gun away and use the phone. You shoot a gun at someone, and I guarantee that intent to kill is proven in a court of law, by pulling the trigger.Your only true defences are accident or justification ( Oh! was that a gun in my hand , not a neutralizer device? BUahahahahahah!).
Semantics count when the police and prosecutor are asking questions.
Good answer: I w-w-w-was just trying to s-s-stop him, th-thought he was going to kill m-me. He was going to kill me.
Bad answer: I meant to kill the sob, he needed it.
Maybe she just wanted to get to a safe place, in familiar surroundings with people she knew and loved. Hospitals aren’t like that.
That'd be intent to use deadly force.
Have a nice night. I'm moving on.
He didn’t have time to finish the “O”. He started writing on the other side of her face.
Wouldn’t the attack, and the attacker, be on the ATM’s video?

One of those typical white redneck racist Western Pennslyvania clingers?
Cavuto had 2 separate guests who both brought this up. He shut both of them up. The first one I can’t recall. The second guest was Hank Wms Jr. Neil cut them both off.
Cavuto, et al have producers in their ear who tell them what to do.
Not to pile on, but the report said the guy was wearing a black t-shirt. It was 9pm and late October in Pittsburgh.See also, from FReeper Anonymous coward, earlier in this thread:Isnt it a little cold for a t-shirt.

Anonymous coward to FishrrmanI am a Plastic Surgeon. I have treated a lot of facial trauma.
It is my opinion that this is a Tawana Brawley moment. Heres why:
1- As many have noted, the B is way too neat for somebody to have carved on anybody other than an unconscious patient.-- snip --
2- Although she has a black eye, there is NO swelling. All the anatomic landmarks are intact, there is fine wrinkling in the eyelid skin, etc. The black eye comes from blood vessels burst under the skin. There is no way the swelling would have resolved 24 hrs later. If anything, swelling is worse the next day as fluid extravasates into the injured tissues.Thursday, October 23, 2008 3:39:20 PM · 380 of 503
Anonymous coward to Travis McGeeThe story will be scrutinized by everybody and the holes in the story will become obvious.
There was a similar case at Princeton last spring, a pro life student claimed to have been attacked by pro choicers. The injuries were self inflicted.
This is a major bummer as it will boomerang on Republicans and allow democrats to claim ALL abuse claims are bogus.-- snip --

Anonymous coward to cdga5for4Im no expert on criminal investigations, just a plastic surgeon who treats facial trauma. I just dont see evidence of trauma in the face other than a neatly carved or branded B. I cant speak about the back of the head.
When you work in an ER, as I have, the first place an out of towner goes after an event like this, ESPECIALLY if alone when attacked, is the Emergency Room. They feel protected from the alien an hostile environment within the safe confines of a hospital. The police report, as a matter of fact, tends to be generated from within the hospital, after a call from social services.
Like I said, this just doesnt add up.-- snip --

Anonymous coward to beagleoneLook, I really think Obama would be a disaster. I think Obama supporters are rude. There have already been documented attacks on Republicans by deranged Obamabots (most recently in NYC- witnessed).
BUT this smells fishy.
Most women I know would not take kindly to getting a black eye.
I agree, but this doesnt look like a black eye, unless you mean makeup. Read my previous posts, Im a surgeon who treats facial trauma.
This looks like a self inflicted deal and I will watch in horror as the whole story unravels.-- snip --

Anonymous coward to JemianAgreed, this is what makes us better, and more credible than Kos or DUmmies.
We will be taken for complete fools if we swallow every tempting morsel thrown our way.
Such nicities are very rarely observed in a homocide trial.
If you point a gun at someone, you intend to kill. Ask any juror, and they will tell you the same.
Try this:
Point a gun at someone. Will they think" He is intending to use deadly force," Or will they think" He intends to kill me."
Its really that simple. Only a complete Darwin Awardee would reach the former conclusion.
The various flow charts of legal theory are very rarely related to the real world. Pointhng a gun at someone is serious business. Not only that, but in many instances at trial, once it is proven that the forearm involved was known to be loaded properly by the accused, and that it was knowingly ( not accidentally) pointed at the victim, it often happens that the burden actually shifts to an accused defacto did not intend to kill the victim.( eg. We were just playing around, I didn't know the gun was loaded.). I know this should not happen, but the jury wants an explanation, if the accused says there was no intent to kill. Sematics of "intent to neutralize" makes a defendant look like they have very poor credibility to a jury.
He lost Florida too. McCain’s campaining here while Bambi’s in Hawaii.
Mark Levin covering this now. The police called it a maiming.
