IRS Filed Tax Lien Against Obama's Mother in 1991

So I was digging into Mr. Obama/Soetoro/Dunham's past looking for records of Birth, Marriage, Divorce, Name Change, etc on Official State of HI sites and, I found the following:

A little cryptic I know and it is just a document SUMMARY -- but is an official record of a tax lien filed by the IRS against Stanley A Dunham (aka/ Stanley A. D. Sutoro (sic/sp))-- this an offical record with the State of Hawaii's "Bureau of Conveyance" -- I ordered a hard-copy and it is suppose to arrive by US Mail within 14 Days... (I'll post an image as soon as it arrives assuming it contains more data as i am 99% sure it will)

In the meantime a few questions I hope freepers can help with:

1. Is this a "new" discovery? Has anyone else heard an "Obama's mother didn't pay her taxes story?" did Barry make any reference to this in either of his books?" etc?

2. This happened in late 1991 -- was Barry likely in a financial position to help his mom out?

3. Any other thoughts about where/how to follow-up for more details?

It would be helpful to know:

What exactly did the IRS accuse her of? What defense (if any) she offered? What was the final outcome/adjudication? Did the Government ever get paid?

Any thoughts you may have regarding how to pursue these questions would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

McCain or his surrogates have missed several openings to mention this but chose not to. I have heard him state his sob story more than once saying he was raised by a single mother and was poor and used welfare and food stamps, but somehow, miraculously went to Harvard. All McCain had to do was innocently ask, "How did you pay for Harvard?"

I'm lower middle class and my daughter going to college is killing me. Harvard would be impossible. How does someone on the dole get in and pay for it? If he were a quarterback or could shoot 3 pointers from mid court all day, I could see some help, but I must have missed that in his resume.

Θbama's mother supposedly was in Pakistan during the years 1987-1991/2 and employed by the Asian Development Bank. From another thread, she stayed for a number of years in a Ramada Hotel Lahore which subsequently was renamed to Avril Hotel Lahore.

I don't think Obama's mother is off limits, since he used his family and life story in lieu of experience to get where he is, changing his history as it became convenient.

What follows is random speculation:

Lolo Soetoro died in 1987 (in a California hospital, I've read, but I haven't seen any proof), so Stanley Ann may have owed estate taxes. The odd thing about that "divorce" -- which Dunham filed for in 1980 -- is that it was never finalized. My guess is that Soetoro, like his brother-in-law that Obama mentions in the book, syphoned off quite a bit of money from the state-owned oil company (a popular pastime in corrupt Indonesia), and that's what paid for the education of both Obama and his sister at the very expensive Punahou school (I don't think either of them had a scholarship), and their college education.

1987 was also the year Obama applied to law school, starting Harvard in '88 and graduating in '91. Money from Soetoro's estate?  Stanley Anne died in 1995, but I don't think she was ill for more than a year or so before that. In a March, 2008 story, the NYT wrote "Mr. Obama has recalled talking with her in her hospital bed about her fears of ending up broke."  Rather a strange comment -- I think it was his fear of being broke.

In spite of the usual nausea-inducing swooning, this article actually has some facts in it; meaning the reporter, Amanda Ripley, did some actual research, rather than just copying from Barry's excellent adventure book. Ripley found the divorce record for the first marriage and is among the few people who figured out that Obama, Sr. left for Harvard when O, Jr. was less than a year old -- not two, as Obama says, and the  NYT repeats constantly.

Since Ripley obviously looked up actual records in Hawaii, my guess is that she found the tax lien and/or other docs with that spelling of the name, and wove it into the story.

Anna lived in Pakistan for the five years beginning in 1987 and ending in 1992. During this time, Obama visited his mother and stayed for a few months. Anna was hired as a consultant by the Asian Development Bank for Pakistan Agricultural Development Bank’s Gujranwalla Agricultural Development Program.

Anna monitored the funds received for this program from the Asian Development Bank and trained the Mobile Credit Officers of the Agricultural Bank. This program was controlled from the Gujranwalla Regional Office. She stayed for five years in the Hilton International Hotel (now Avari Hotel), Lahore. She travelled daily from Lahore to Gujranwalla. When Barack Obama visited Pakistan, he stayed in the same hotel. After returning from Pakistan, she died from cancer within three years.

Anna also worked for the Ford Foundation and Women’s World Bank, establishing micro-credit loans in developing countries. Her antipathy for America and Americans didn't prevent her from funneling its money to third-world countries.

Those are high-paying, big-time consulting gigs. She made big money while living at the Hilton.

I am aware of the difference, but I could swear the media reported it as a tax lien. But then....they frequently lie and often don’t do their homework well enough to know the difference.
