Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich reacted this morning to Colin Powell's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., arguing, "What that just did in one sound bite... is it eliminated the experience argument."
Powell, the former secretary of state, announced his long-awaited endorsement Sunday morning, explaining that he is backing Obama "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of this campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities we have to take that into account as well as his substance he has both style and substance he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."
In all-star roundtable edition of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," former presidential adviser David Gergen categorized Powell's announcement as "the most important endorsement of the campaign so far."

WTF ???
If Joe the Plumber endorses McCain it doesn’t mean that McCain now suddenly has the expertise to install shower fixtures and new faucets.
Maybe Newt thought that Powell was going to be running as Barry X’s co presidential candidate.
Along with Joe the Buffoon- a weird political threesome.
Maybe Newt thought he heard Menage a Trois and lost his mind.
Thanks for the list! Ole Colonoscopy has inserted hisself in good company, no?
and how does an endorsement change the bombs experience?????
Newt will always be an important part of the neo-con (I use it as a compliment) legacy. But American must understand that McCain and Palin are our future. Things have changed.
He has never been much of a big thinker or leader, for that matter. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears.
I'm also curious if anyone, Newt included, who really thinks this will change any votes.
You know that Newt has taken cash - lots of it - from moveon to support his American Solutions energy lobby so he can make some jack off this green stuff.
Sorry but I fail to understand why time and again people get upset by what comes out of Colin and Newt’s mouths.
For some some reason they are treated as “one of us” no matter how many times they stab us in the back and people become disheartened or outraged over and over. Until these people are no longer given credibility by conservatives that want to believe they are something they are not...but that day isn’t coming anytime soon. If it was, Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan wouldn’t be allowed to annually say something stupid under the guise of being “conservative and be taken seriously.
And, McCain is just like them, and in some ways being turned upon by them is fitting retribution. And they wonder why it takes outsiders to create any enthusiasm from the public for this race at all.
Newt always has been, and that was one of his problems for me. He was impressed with Bill Clinton, and once said (paraphrased) he had a hard time not giving in to Clinton's plans because he was so admirable and persuasive.
All this adulation of Colin Powell is missplaced. The Bushes made him and he has no loyalty. What he says of Obama is gratuitous and untrue--the man has NO substance, and he is a divider, not a inclusive leader. Powell was the embodiment of the Peter Principle IMHO.
vaudine
Geesh Newt- how does that statement even make SENSE? Because Powell endorsed him we can now assume Obama has enough experience?
pppfffttt...
Go back to kissing up to Gore and your globull warming crap. Leave us alone.
Picking Palin was a disaster. She's a whole lot LESS ready to be President than Obama. Unless some massive skeletons get hauled out of Obama's closet over the next three weeks, that pick will go down in history as having led directly to the victory of the first black President (and unfortunately, quite possibly to such disasters as nationalized healthcare, as a consequence).
LLS
I’m going to get a famous opera singer to endorse me. (I love opera.) This will mean I am immediately capable of starring in La Traviata. See how easy this is.
inclusive campaign?
Ummmm his campaign has been investigating first Palin in troopergate, then Joe the plumber for daring to question his socialist tax plan.
Chicago thug politics, sure it’s inclusive...ask the clintons!!
Perhaps it’s the lack of character and backbone that makes him appear less intelligent at times.
LOL........I knew that would happen....yes, I knew of lieberman - a now infamous memory lapse.
at present count FOUR posts reminding me.
Thanks all.
No one needs an OK from Powell on anyone’s experience. Palin is a governor. end of story.
Remeber it doesn't matter what the effect is on confirmed Obama or McCain supporters. Whats at stake are undecided and independents.
What does his endorsement have to do w/experience?? It would be shocking if he didn’t endorse Oblack.
Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops
There needs to be a MAJOR mucking out of the “leadership” stable in the GOP. Let the purge begin....
