Joe the Plumber target of Arizona (his Drivers License is suspended)

Joe the Plumber's' AZ driver license suspended Comments 6 | Recommend 4 Daniel Newhauser, For the Tribune

A plumbing license is not the only license "Joe the Plumber" is having troubles with.

The former Mesa resident has a suspended driver's license and outstanding court fines in Arizona, according to Mesa Municipal Court records.

"Joe," whose real name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, was referred to more than 20 times by Republican Sen. John McCain in Wednesday night's presidential debate for questioning Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's tax policy.

The man portrayed by McCain to be the typical, hardworking American revealed this week that he actually does not have a plumbing license, and now court records show he should not have a driver's license either, making it potentially even harder for him to get to work.

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

America's new political icon, who owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Nevertheless, Wurzelbacher's driver's license is still valid in Ohio, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and was renewed as recently as May 2005. Ohio law requires a license to be renewed every four years, meaning Wurzelbacher likely obtained an Ohio license in 2001, one year after having his Arizona license suspended.

With a suspended license in one state, it should not be possible to get a new license in another, said Cydney DeModica, spokeswoman for the Arizona MVD.

The only way "Joe the Plumber" could have slipped through the cracks is a clerical error in which his driving records were not entered into the Problem Driver Pointer System, the national database of information about people with a checkered driving past, said Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Lindsay Komlanc.

Komlanc added if the Ohio BMV were to receive the information, appropriate action could be taken, including suspension of his Ohio license.

Brilliant!

Why aren’t the folks on the McCain team, who are being paid big bucks to do his ads, not coming up with these ideas...or are they, and John McCain is trying to play nice? Playing nice ain’t goin to cut it in this election cycle.

Somebody needs to find a way to get your suggestions to the folks that have some influence on the McCain-Palin team.

Hope that something positive comes out of this for him.
His question as answered by barry, certainly opened the eyes of many to barry’s real intentions.

This is very dangerous stuff. A huge chilling effect on political speech in America. Doesn’t matter what Joe has done or hasn’t done, the attack on him for getting Obama to admit he’s a socialist on air is something that used to be confined to juntas.

“We will have another Civil War within ten years, and I am ready.”

I believe the more conservative states will begin the process of leaving the union if Obama is elected. The Lefties hate war and are too wimpy to fight so I'm not sure that “union” troops will be as tough as last time. I do suspect, however, that most of the secessionists will be clinging to their guns and relying on their G-d.

Hopefully, the Gandhi model works rather than the Fort Sumner model and we just wish each other adieu and get on with our respective cultures.

Joe the Plummer target of Arizona

Did you know there is a "B" in Plumber?

And that you can copy titles instead of typing them from memory?

It's true!

Some of our FReepers that are so good at research should check out the reporters digging for and making this crap public. The reporters need their dirty laundry aired more than Joe the Plumber does.

He is being ruined for daring to ask a question.

Agreed. Iam trying to catch up on this thread, and I am sure it has been said before, and better - but this CANNOT stand! We must stop this because we cannot allow this kind of intimidation and silencing of our free speech!

I know a number of very conservative people who have been intimidated by the Left to the point where they don't say anything political in public. They have been intimidated into silence. Death threats, blackmail, reputation destruction, shadowing, car damage, physical assault while IN HOSPITAL, etc. You get on the wrong side of these people and they turn your life to sh*t.

The plumber is not the issue!!! Obama’s answer to the question is the issue!!! It wouldn’t matter if this man were a little green man from Mars.

You have certainly bought into the media smokescreen lock, stock, and barrel.

Obama has already won this battle. Their will be no repercussions for this attack on a citizen. Because of the BS MSM everybody seems to have forgotten all about or never even heard of “spread the wealth around”.

I never realized just how many brain-dead self-centered me first people are in this country. It is truly sickening.

To vote for someone thats record (what little of one there is) is full of tax and spend is just suicide.
All this because people want to punish Bush?!?! My God voting FOR the problem (Acorn,Obama,Pelosi,Reid,Franks etc.) will not SOLVE the problem. It is mind-numblingly stupid. Its like paying the guy that robbed you to get your stuff back!

“Senator Obama, let’s talk about Sen Edward Kennedy’s driving record, shall we?
You should repeat that over and over. So Joe is a scofflaw, but Kennedy is a killer”

In mentioning Sen. Ted Kennedy’s driving record, the following should always be mentioned.
In 1969 Senator Kennedy drove off the “bridge to nowhere” at Chappaquiddick Mass, and did not notify authorities for many hours. Mary Jo Kopeckne lost her life due to his driving and his failure to get her out of the car. The death of Ms. Kopeckne is the only reason Kennedy did not make it into the presidency.

Why is it that they are insisting that he be called by his first name? To remind us that barry said we can’t use his middle name?

I wondered this also, since I go by my middle name.

This is beyond crazy. What they still don’t realize is no matter what they come at him with, unless they find out he is a fugative of the law or a pedophile, he is still just like many of us Americans. None of us live a perfect life. We do make mistakes, some of us from time to time do owe money to the IRS, we get speeding tickets, etc. Absolutely crazy.

Ann Dunham’s work in Pakistan was through her employer, The Ford Foundation. Interestingly The Ford Foundation funded the Weather Underground and other radical groups. I have read that they also helped Ayers get employment. They also funded the Woods Fund that Ayers and Obama were on. I am suspicious that maybe Ann Dunham was connected with the Weather Underground and Ayers. Perhaps she is the missing Obama/Ayers connection.
