Rev. Arnold Conrad, in delivering an invocation at a rally today for John McCain in Davenport, Iowa, apparently didn't get the word from the candidate about elevating the tone at such gatherings.
Conrad, who appeared before the crowd before McCain had arrived, offered a prayer that seemed to urge divine intervention to prevent Barack Obama from winning the presidential election -- and cast the outcome as a referendum on differing religions.
The Times' Maeve Reston was at the event, and she passed along the key passage from Conrad's words:
I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God -- whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah -- that his [McCains] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.
And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because theyre going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day.
Oh Lord, we just commit this time to you, move among us, make your presence very well felt as we are gathered here today in Jesus's name I pray.
Some in the crowd greeted the prayer with applause.

The LA Times don’t like this one bit!!! ;-))) LOLOLOL!!!
The reporter says at the end “the crowd applauded”.
HAHAHA!!!!!
I BET THEY SCREAMED and PRAISED GOD IN JOY, ALONG WITH APPLAUDING!!!!!!!! ;-)))))
Oh I will vote! Please don't mock God to me.
Because God is just as involved in countries around the world (where there is no such thing as a Republican or a Democrat) as he is in ours. If we think God cares about party politics like we do, we've lost ourselves, and we need to read the New Testament again.
At least he didn’t proclaim John McCain is the messiah.
Missed the sarcasm tag?
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
I was at a church recently for a funeral and there was an Obama sign on the altar.
Good prayer, Amen.
I have been praying the same thing. I am preparing, though, for God to decide he won't intervene in that way...He is sovereign, and He will work his purpose in history.
Yeah, I wonder how interested the media would be to know all of Hussein’s pastor’s prayers.
I agree. I see nothing that can be disputed. However, she was probably freaking out so much that she got part of it wrong.
Sounds like a reasonable prayer to me
We know the LATimes is a bigoted newspaper.
Many know the story of General Patton’s prayer for better weather in order to more efficiently kill the Germans in the winter of 1944. Few know of his Christmas Greeting that was issued along with the prayer.
Contrary to popular belief, the prayer was not ordered to be written during the Battle of the Bulge. It was on the 14th of December that General Patton had the famous exchange with Chaplain O’Neill to write a prayer for good weather and to give a copy to each member of the Third Army. The Chaplain mentioned that it’s not a customary practice to pray for clear weather in order to kill fellow men.
Patton’s response was direct, “Chaplain, are you teaching me theology or are you the Chaplain of the Third Army? I want a prayer.”
After working out the logistics, each member of the Third Army (approximately 250,000 at the time) was issued a small card on the 22nd of December, 1944. By this time, the Battle of the Bulge was underway.
On one side of the card was the famous prayer:
Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations.
When Patton originally ordered the cards made, some of the General’s men convinced him to include a Christmas greeting for the troops. On the reverse side, the card had a personal message from the General:
To each officer and soldier in the Third United States Army, I wish a Merry Christmas. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. May God’s blessing rest upon each of you on this Christmas Day.
G. S. Patton, Jr.
Lieutenant General

OMG! I would have been unable to leave an anonymous note at that altar! (Maybe there’s still time.)
While that is undoubtedly true, whose cause do you think he supports, the side who wanted slavery and now infanticide on demand, or the party that was formed to end slavery and now opposes infanticide?
The question isn't whether God is on our side, but if we are on Gods side.
We are commanded to judge, and then decide which side to join.
I’m praying that we get a leader that we need and not one that America deserves.
