Back to O +6
Other daily trackers:
Gallup 0 50 - M 42 (yday)
Hotline O 47 - M 42 (yday)
R2000 O 51 - M 41 (warning - Kos' poll, sample requires -3 pt adjustment imo)
Battleground O 46 - M48 (!?)
Lets see...
We need Israel to attack Iran - that will change the headlines and move us into the foreign policy arena.
Very well said and True. But would Obama be in this position now without the media?
I am not sure what you mean by this. Seriously, put me back on "ignore". You will be all the happier for doing it.
Tell us then, oh sage one, why did Obama recently CLOSE his Georgia* campaign offices and move the resources to Pennsylvania?
Show of strength?
* A state he said he would win a month ago.
Myself and many others.
Whatusaid.
Yep. We’re in agreement.
The phone calls need to stop. This deal needs to get done. Toss a few cosmetic changes in to provide cover to everyone and get the vote completed.
The interbank lending this morning froze up even more. Ireland, of all places, is the only reason ATM machines are working in Europe this morning. They stepped up last night and announced guarantee of all deposits (sort of a national FDIC).
Banks can’t make money if the loans they made on houses aren’t being repaid. They HAVE to freeze to hoard cash to pay their own salaries.
It’s just not practical for folks here to think a grand conspiracy is at work when . . . like all conspiracies . . . any number greater than 3 “in on it” guarantees someone would spill the beans.
Call your Congress critters and request that the deal be approved.
All of the polls except Battleground are going to be like this — at least unless the current political narrative changes — until either the financial mess gets resolved in Washington or is revealed to be way overblown and exxagerated (if, in fact, it is). [Note: incidentally, in 2004 the Battleground final result was only about 1.5% more favorable to Bush than the final result — I thought it was more than that for some reason. This is significant because as of yesterday McCain actually led obama by 2 points. But I digress.]
Moreover, I think the evidence is now in that behaving like a responsible leader rather than phoning it in (as Obama has done) isn’t helping McCain politically because he and Republicans generally are getting slaughtered in the daily spin war. There is a new Gallup poll out to this effect: see http://www.gallup.com/poll/110782/US-Leaders-Not-Getting-High-Marks-Crisis.aspx. This is grossly unfair and wrong, but unfortunately it is what it is politically.
But there is something McCain and the RNC can do to start changing the narrative. They must convince the public that however bad things now seem, they will get much worse under an Obama Administration than a McCain Administration, especially if the Democrats still control Congress. In other words, the McCain campaign has done a brilliant job so far of taking one Obama strength after another and turning it into a weakness. Now he must take on Obama’s greatest strength of all: his (wrongly) perceived superior abilities to “manage” the economy. He must not be allowed to get away with saying, in effect, that free market capitalism has had its chance and failed and now stronger measures (socialism) are necessary.
“The 2006 numbers were inflated because of GOP defections...”
You hope. Polling, wise, it is always best to use the most recent turnout numbers. And there was more than Foley at work in 2006, much more.
The Pubbie base may be energized, although I would guess a bit deflated after the events of the past week, but after 8 years of their arch nemesis in the White House, so is the Dem base, something Freepers completely ignore.
2 undeniable Facts:
1: State polling is all that really matters
2: NO WAY Osbama will get 50% of the vote...NFW!
Lookie here Ohio Still Major Battleground State for McCain
Very well said... I couldn’t agree more.
He’s not in Iowa. He was interviewed on Iowa radio from wherever he is, which is undisclosed. He has no public events scheduled today. Neither does Palin. She’s in Sedona preparing for the debate.
Their schedule is on McCain’s website.
Obmam is having a rally in NV. Biden is prepping for the debate.
The defeat by design of the bailout plan engineered by Pelosi and crew led to these poor polling numbers for McCain.
Now the dems will ride to the rescue and try to pass the original version of the bill on a party line vote.
That OH poll is one bit of good news. If after all this negative financial news McCain still has a lead there, if only 1 point, then there still is hope. He’s going to have to get focused and have great performances in the next 2 debates though.
That horrible thought has flitted through my mind. Other than his convention bump, McCain’s best numbers were when Russia invaded Georgia.
But I refuse to wish for a national security crisis, just like I refuse to hope that voters are racist. If McCain’s such a cr@ppy candidate that it takes something like that to drag him across the finish line, he deserves to lose.
Yesterday vote scheme was the Dem/Obama Oct surprise . They plotted to crash the markets and to get Bambi elected via a financial crash !
Black Communist Barbara Lee voted against the Bill.
That should tell everyone it was a SET UP !
“Folks here better get it through their minds that as long as Wall Street is on the front page because of no rescue package, McCain is going to lose”
I agree. When you see Obama’s numbers “tipping 50”, with similar results coming from several polsters, it’s time to call a spade a spade.
I don’t see McCain retaking the initative. It may be too late and literally “too far to go”, numbers-wise.
There will be lots and lots and lots of vanities between now and the election. I won’t be posting any. But if I was to, the question I think we should be asking is: what can conservatives and Republicans do during the coming Obama administration (along with a lopsided democratic-majority Congress) to limit its effectiveness?
In the next few weeks, that will become the most important issue before us.

I sent an email yesterday too and said basically the same thing. Sent it to Rick Davis too. I didn't have Schmidt's email otherwise he would have gotten an ear full too! Told them to boat anchor those bad loans on the Democrats and if they didn't, Obama is our next President. Told them to cut the bipartisan crap!
