After days of intense bipartisan negotiations and meetings today at the White House, the deal to bail out staggered investment banks may be dying amid partisan finger-pointing.
Republicans blame Democrats. Democrats blame Republicans, and a key Democrat even pointed a finger at Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain.
House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., told Democratic colleagues that McCain's sudden heightened involvement in the negotiations has destroyed chance of an agreement, sources told ABC's George Stephanopoulos.
Frank compared McCain's involvement to "Richard Nixon blowing up the Vietnam peace talks in 1968."

Tora Tora Tora.
And to top it all of B Clinton is sticking up for McCain.
You can't make this stuff up.
Frank compared McCain's involvement to "Richard Nixon blowing up the Vietnam peace talks in 1968."
McCain should be proud to be called out like this by Barney Fag... er... Frank.
The folks that I have talked to "on the street" all say that they would rather suffer a depression than bail out the investment banks.
They don't understand what the real problem is - but that's another story...
I certainly hope so.
This was NOT a wise deal. I do not think we should be steamrollred and frightened into another huge deal!
Let's take a slow look at what exactly we are being forced into doing, and if this "solution" is wise.
Eeeeewwww!
The lack of shame displayed by Frank and Dodd is remarkable. It’s like listening to an arsonist blame the firemen who are putting out the blaze he set. There is a reckoning that awaits these men in this life or the next.
>> If McCain actually does kill this off by pushing conservative demands, Ill vote for him.
Me too!
Heck, I’ll have his baby...
(ok, maybe that’s a bit much. Tell you what, I’ll have Sarah’s baby instead.)
I like that! You should be a newspaper editor...
Sarah Was Seen Rubbing Her Hands Together After The Krauthammer Comment - Saying: "You Go Dr. K!"
Also, if people have not put any money down then they really are not going to “lose” their houses because in reality they were simply “renting” - what exactly have they LOST????
Barney Frankenhomo and his dour band of malcontents have probably unwittingly stepped into an area known as...The Triangulation Zone. McCain might end up separated from Bush and the Dems when this plays out. But I could be wrong.
The Dems have majorities in the House and Senate, if this deal dies, it will be on their watch, they have not done squat since they took the reins, and now they are crying about not getting anything done?
Shame..well...err...these are Democrats after all..
Although the Dems are being suckered and dont even know it.
So they keep slamming McCain as Bushs 3rd term and the Dems just destroyed their own argument when they sided with Bush and McCain opposes Bush’s bailout, unreal, Dems get punked and dont even know its been done.
Well I hope this thread doesn’t get pulled. I have never seen so many pulled threads as in the last few days.
There aren’t enough Dems who won’t vote for this silliness.
If they had enough, they would go ahead and vote tomorrow.
I suspect people are calling their Congressman and telling them no way on this.
And I'd like to know just how "bipartisan" was the team the brokered the so-called deal?
Actually, the best compromise is to allow these idiot institutions to fail along with their idiot loan borrowers.
Im sick and tired of these socialist bailouts.

A sentiment that apparently a lot of other Americans hold as well.
The real culprit is the Congressional seniority system that allows a representative to make laws affecting the entire nation while being answerable only to his or her small district. So long as he or she manages to toss enough pork into the district, their re-election and rise in seniority is assured. And no one can really blame the voters who want powerful representatives. We need either term limits or abolishment of the seniority system to truly reform Congress.
