Breaking: Obama Refuses to Delay the Debate

“In my mind, it’s more important than ever that we present ourselves to the American people and describe where we want to take the country and where we want to take the economy,” said the Democratic candidate for the Presidency, Senator Barack Obama.

The statement was given in response to Senator John McCain’s surprising announcement that he had suspended his campaign to focus on the looming financial crisis in America by returning to Washington to help craft and pass emergency legislation.

McCain had invited his opponent to join him in returning to Washington to deal with the crisis. He also asked for a delay in the first debate of the General election which is scheduled for Friday evening in Mississippi.

Senator Obama refused, telling the media “This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess.” Earlier in the day, Obama had agreed to issue a joint statement with McCain concerning the crisis. However, sources in the Obama campaign are now intimating that Senator McCain’s move is some kind of political “ploy”.

good idea.but I think he’d rather master the debate by himself.

One, the first debate was to be about foreign policy.

Two, you don't think the press will be in DC covering this story, and asking McCain questions and getting responses?

No, I guess McCain will go hide somewhere. /sarc

Meanwhile Barry's prepping to debate his teleprompter.

Good move by McCain . . . if and only if this calms the markets. If it does so, and Obama is left on a stage by himself, he will look completely unpresidential and petty.

Obama just caved, announced he’s suspending his campaign and delaying the debate. Sounds like Unconditional Surrender

The first poll showed 80% of the people think they should take care of business in DC.

FReeper Petronski suggested that McCain should tell Obama he could debate Joe Biden in his stead. Apparently Obama and Biden have enough policy differences between them to make a pretty meaningful debate.

McCain must play poker

C'mon guys he is a Navy Pilot...This kind of poker is in his blood...
Barry is but a babe in the woods at a time like this....
Circumstancs like this is shows precisely why we have to elect McCain.
He's gonna give Pooty-Poot, Ahmadisnutz, and Kimmy's successors the willies, and that is a good thing.

And McCain is fulfilling his duties as a sitting Senator in doing this. Do you really think N0bama would be able to go off script this late in the game?

Go debate yourself, Obama.

Readers feel free to substitute the verb of your choice in lieu of debate...

“Another Obama gaffe. The next President won’t be inagurated until January 09.

What a freaking idiot.”

Yip. Shows his ignorance again, and the media will ignore it. He is unaware that Bush does`nt leave office until Jan. 20, and up until then, Bush will be in charge.

God help me, but I agree with Obama here. The American people want to hear with the next President plans to do about this. This is McCain’s chance to shine and eliminate Obama’s one trump card, the economy. This almost looks like he’s afraid of the debate.

The debate on Friday is about Foreign Policy not the economy. Obama is and always has been about me-me-me!

Right and Obama was going to lose that debate anyway. If I was him I would say ok, no debate Friday. But I would say my schedule is so set that I can't fit in a debate to replace this one.

McCain's move throws Obama off his stride. Sort of like yelling, "Boo!" when a bowler is just about to release the ball.

Hehehe

“Obama gives the media their orders, since they are part of his campaign anyway.”

The One does`nt give orders to anyone. He takes them. Remember when he said he want`ed to visit Hawaii and Alaska, and he said his campaign managers would`nt give him permission?

Funny things running through my head right now. Remember those old Wendy’s commercials with the old lady asking where’s the beef?

Where’s the Obama?

McCain remembers he is first and foremost a public servent, a senator, and then a candidate for President.

And I suppose he bears no responsibility as a Senator and presidential candidate to lead or find a solution for "this mess" at this moment.
