John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
Btw, Hannity just read a short release from Obama - they say there is no reason to delay Fridays debate. Putting politics above country it seems.
So obi says they thought of this first, now they say we dont have too?
Pretty much.
I’m sure both candidates are preparing clever campaign ads even now that address the implications of their opponents’ failure to debate as agreed:
“That white devil, McCain who is senile, old and tired . . . “ and “My opponent Obama, a moon-worshipping cur who cares nothing for his country . . . “.
They remind me of the dogs in the Frank Norris novel `McTeague’ that hate each others guts . . . as long as there’s a fence between them.
John McCain just knocked Carl Rove off the pedestal as a campaign strategist!
And why not? Rewarding catastrophic failure of the Wall Street fat cats with tax payer money is unethical and disgusting.
The Wall Street types should be thankful that they are not being carted away to prison pending trial for the crimes that’ve committed in the financial markets.
After seeing that movie, I giggle every time I hear the words "bona fides".
This is stupid, John McCain! Stupid, stupid, stupid! I don’t want the politics of the entire U.S. to soon become just like the politics of the entire state of Massachusetts! The Republican Party of Massachusetts has been profoundly weak politically for several decades now and counting, and the U.S. will truly become a third world socialistic country for the long-term, if Barack Obama does become the next POTUS along with a majority of Democrats in both Houses of Congress! People who truly think that the economy is bad now, just wait until the Democrats, along with “leftist” Republicans, control everything politically! Help!
Fine. Send Sarah Palin to debate Obama.
Sorry folks, bad move, bad, bad move.
Absolutely. If the banking industry goes down, so will jobs. Then it's very ugly.
FYI: We have in the DC area a very respected financial advisor, Ric Edelman, who has written a number of bestsellers on financial management. He said this morning thaT Congress should get out of the way of Paulson and Bernacke, and let them address this problem post haste because the loss of confidence in the economy could lead to a financial calamity. We are literally at the abyss of downward spiral that could spin out of control and have disastrous effects on the nation. I trust Paulson and Bernacke more than Congress on this issue. They [Congress]are the ones who got us into this dilemma.
Sttop handwringing.
You must have awoken in Bizzaro World, because you're not thinking rationally. Get back with us when you've had a chance to reset.
According to Major Garret, the McCain campaign told Obama’s campaign, yes to the joint statement on the financial crisis.
You know what that means.
Bend over, folks, here it comes.
But you don't know that and neither does any other voter. McCain has already made the commitment to Country First as he has claimed all along he is strongly in favor of. By doing this he re enforces that commitment and by coming out with this and asking Obama to join him he shows LEADERSHIP. If he gets there tomorrow and by Friday there is an agreement nothing is lost. He has still proved to be a leader and Obama a follower if he joins McCain in Washington, and worse if he remains alone on the campaign trail.
Even IF true, here's the way to handle it: Jr. Senator Obama did seek advice from Senator McCain today on how best to deal with the current economic crisis. Jr. Senator Obama thought it best to continue to campaign and debate. Senator McCain decided that the best course of action would be to return to Washington to help fix the current economic mess.
Again..Oh Please..
Really? Oh, well then, could you please explain to me how McCain is supposed to be in 2 places at the same time?
He does have a job, which WE pay him to do.
Obama is going to describe McCain as “in a panic” again.
People forget that Sen. McCain graduated from Annapolis and learned strategy and tactics from his Admiral father and Admiral grandfather. He also has some smart cookies running his campaign.
His latest tactical move to suspend his campaign to focus on solving the economy in the Senate has Obama on his heels. McCain can take the high road, while Obama searches for a way to exploit the situation.
