McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

Yep, after the horrible purge of good conservatives who were looking at Mayor Guiliani, it is a shame that Hussein cheerleaders are now allowed here.

And never get zotted, heck even I got banned for a day for posting an article on Kennedy slamming our troops, the day he was diagnosed.

Well, good things can never last forever...pc comes to every org sooner or later, the commie vampires always win in the end, but I wish we could at least take a nic out of them once in a while.

He said, “And, you know, Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time...

Then why doesn't Obama fly back to Washington as well, thus PROVING that he can both fulfill his Senatorial duties and prepare for the debate at the same time?

"I’m just saying that candidates have faced a lot tougher times and still found the time to debate..."

What tougher times? Name them.

"...plus it looks like McCain didn’t have a clue of how serious it was if he waits until now to start “rolling up his sleeves”."

Did you even listen to his statement? He said he'd been talking to Bernake and Paulson regularly, plus spoke to party leaders today, who said that the legislation as it is written right now, would not pass. So to me that means that there wasn't going to be an easy resolution to the problem without everyone getting involved, rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done.

Barack Obama has been talking alot about how, if elected, he'd be bi-partisan, and reach across the aisle. Well, here was a perfect chance for him to do that, and he passed the opportunity to work with the other side. Running for President is more important than the economy falling apart.

I got the “82% agree” figure from listening to hannity on the radio. he said it while he was speaking with Pat Buchanon.

And here’s a shocker- an MS-PMSNBC poll said 79% disagree.

I’d say Mac upset the libs’ applecart today.

This would make a great ad...McCain calls Obama at 3AM to come to DC and he rolls over and goes back to sleep

No, McCain is going there to develop a new, bipartisan proposal. The Bush proposal is DOA. He is not going there just to vote, but to hammer out a package that can at least forestall a market meltdown on Monday. It is my understanding that the deadline for the package is this weekend. It is urgent, which is what I expect Bush to say tonight and what Paulson and Bernancke have been saying yesterday and today before Congress.

He attempted to explain the current situation should supercede (obvious) partisan presidential politics at the moment and I thought that was good coming from him...(but I guess that was the ONLY thing he really could have said).

Other than that he drifted in and out of talking points.

One statement coming from Barack that I can agree with coming out of any of his speeches, is surprising given my low expectations of the radical, partisan, empty-suit, socialist.

Obama says Presidents have to deal with more than one thing at a time. First, you’re not the president. Secondly, what the hell else do you have to deal with right now that holds even 1/10 the importance of this? Are there no adults in the democrat party?

And why doesn't Obama prove that he can do more than one thing at a time by returning to Washington to help solve the economic emergency as well as prepare for a debate?

The debates were McCain's chances to bury Obama. The fewer debates, the less McCain can do against the Obama spin machine.

You're right if McCain can't presure him into having three debates anyway.

McCain is going to lead legislatively in the following areas (among many) that people care about:

1. no pork attached to this rescue plan
2. no golden parachutes for crooks

You know that his coming to DC is a good move or Reid would not have erupted in anger.

McCain’s people know what they are doing. If anyone had told us back in March that McCain would be even with BO in many blue states on September 24, we’d be laughed off FR. Let’s stop the repeated second guessing.

By my own admission, I too am frankly and pleasantly surprised with the McCain campaign. He really wants to be elected President, and isn’t going to roll over like Bob Dole.

There will still be three Presidential debates. Postpone/delay does not mean cancel.

“I’m just saying that candidates have faced a lot tougher times and still found the time to debate...”

Obama is going to regret saying this after McCain shows up to debate on Friday night. McCain will have proved that he could do two things at once!

The topic NEEDS to be changed back to the economy for the debate. Obama got his way and it's going to be the subject of the 3rd debate. They need to change the topic back to the economy.

I have no idea what impact McCain's suspension will have on the race, but I do know McCain better bring his A+ game on Friday.

Man, this whole thing is crazy. I'm going to go to the grocery store now and step away from the computer :-)
