John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
“It should never have been called a Bailout in the first place. Who would it bailout ? Nobody.”
The plan is not being very well explained, but that’s probably unavoidable since so many have need to cover their own rear ends and it’s very political.
But any business that would otherwise have failed is being bailed out. When a business fails the assets are liquidated, but it sounds like a number of banks and others holding the bad mortgages will be saved from failure.
Obama called McCain and suggested they come together and make a joint statement?
McCain said - Im going to Washington to DO something!?
That pretty much sum it up?
You got it.
So, as always, Obama wants to just flap his jaws, vote present once again, and accomplish absolutely nothing?
Present is exactly his position. Yes, has not committed to anything.
Obama we don’t want or need you......stay out of washington dc..........forever !
I would even pay to see it.
I was at a local bank today and credit has dried up completely. Talked to the VP and he said they cannot get home loans underwritten right now and no credit issued for anything and this is a locally owned bank.
Then I went to get my car serviced at Toyota and they are concerned come Monday if nothing is done, no more car loans.
These are regular people that understand how important it is to get something done now. I have an email from Cong Mary Fallin that says the same thing and none of these people are alarmist.
One of those 300 foreign policy advisors.....
Like government snow days? When "essential personnel" have to slog through, but "non-essential personnel" can, well, get a snow day?
CNN's Woof Blitzer must have his writers read FReeRepublic...they're word of the day is 'showboating'.
Yet a SENATOR needs to be in DC to vote.
LOL, my thoughts exactly! Maybe McCain's next campaign ad can have that playing in the background!
Not exact but pretty close.
He said, “And, you know, Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. Uh, it’s not necessary for us to, uh, think, uh, that we can only do one thing and, uh, suspend everything else.”
Politicians always talk about ending “politics as usual”
McCain is ending it through actions, that he won’t be the typical politician who places winning an election about his duties to the people. Thus showing that he’s for real change while all Obama does it talk.
Isn’t “showboating” a racist term?
I’ve read all of Michelle Malkin’s comments.
My point is McCain doesn’t need to be out on the campaign trail blaming Dems for the problem. People DON’T care at this point who was at fault, and McCain won’t gain any votes by taking that tactic.
Some of you don’t have a clue about the average person who doesn’t follow this stuff hour by hour.
It's tonight, not tomorrow.
“In an economic crisis....if you need me, call me.”
Inexperience you can Believe In!
