From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Carrie Dann *** Sunshine on Obamas shoulders: If you want to know why Obama is doing his debate prep today in -- of all places -- Tampa, FL, look no further than the latest TODAY Show/NBC/Mason-Dixon poll, which has Obama up in the Sunshine State by two points, 47%-45%. Yet inside those numbers, Obama leads McCain in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, and Polk counties) by a 49%-43% margin. Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker says the key to winning Florida statewide is usually through Tampa Bay, and Obamas six-point lead in the area explains why hes ahead in this poll. Moreover, outside of Nevada, there is probably not another state that has been hurt more by the housing and credit crunch, and that may be benefiting Obama right now. Also potentially troublesome for McCain in this must-win GOP state, he leads by just six among Hispanics (49%-43%), which in Florida is made up of a majority of Cubans. (If Obama does pick off younger Cubans, he may close the overall gap thanks to his large lead among non-Cuban Hispanics in the I-4 corridor.) Also, McCain's four-point lead among seniors (48%-44%) is not as big as he needs it to be to offset the electorate-changing demographics among blacks and young voters. So Obama's decision to prep for Friday's debate in Florida is turning into a smart play, huh? Any extra day in Florida might pay off

Pathetic! You call mne a tool when it IS YOU that gets all gutless and wormlike over one stupid poll that is absurd.
outstanding point....if true it is also prior to Palin drawing 60K for her appearance...
Conclusion has to be something is wrong with this poll I would think.
The Rasmussen poll is more recent. The Mason Dixon one was taken last week, during the height of the financial crisis news.

A Mason-Dixon poll (see it here) conducted last Tuesday through Thursday and released today shows Democrat Barack Obama with a 47-to-45 percent lead in Florida over Republican John McCain.
A Rasmussen poll taken Sunday and released late Monday showed McCain with a 51-to-46 lead in Florida.
I believe this poll was completed on the 18th. Since then, Fox has McCain up by 5.
The Mason Dixon poll was actually done last week, it predates the Rasmussen numbers of Sunday and there are major conflicts between the two with independents having like a 35 point delta. Somebody is wrong, that’s for damn sure.
A four point lead among seniors? Please.
Continuing the pattern, if you don’t agree with NYC Republicans dire predictions you will be called names like “fool”.
He came on to a thread and his first post to me was that I was “nuts”, some FRiend. His next post called me “mindless”. With FRiends like him...
He loves to insult the optimistic people here, even when they present evidence. He manages to find and post and promote EVERYTHING that is negative and claim the high ground and look down his nose at everyone else.
Perhaps he is just a negative Nancy, I don’t know the person, but he calls himself a “realist”, we’re just dummies, he knows everything and will insult you and call you names with no provocation, other than that you disagree with his negative read on everything.
HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD YOU LIKE TO BET??? NYC, I have McCain, you get Obama.
I hear you, but let me say to remain vigilant, the Debates are going to mean alot this time around, and McCain has several built in advantages.
Plus Obama just poured and is pouring 38 million into Ads in FL, this is not a whole lot of movment for 38 mil.
Let’s say Obama is ahead by two. I like those odds in late September at the tail end of McCain’s worst week.
I recall Bush Gore 2K. In the first week in October, Gore had a five point lead.
That’s before the roof fell in.
McCain will win this state.
Best,
Chris
Perhaps and probably it is not. Look at the below polling results from RCP. Note the poll dates. The NBC/Mason Dixon Poll is Tues through Wednesday of LAST WEEK, 9/16-9/18, right in the middle of the market meltdown and immediately after McCain said the economic fundamentals are sound. Look at the Fox News/Rasmussen poll taken 3 days after the NBC/Mason Dixon poll. It has McCain up by 6.
RCP Average 09/14 - 09/21 - 48.0 46.0 McCain +2.0
FOX News/Rasmussen 09/21 - 09/21 500 LV 51 46 McCain +5
NBC/Mason-Dixon 09/16 - 09/18 625 LV 45 47 Obama +2
Sun-Sentinel/R2000 09/15 - 09/18 600 LV 46 45 McCain +1
SurveyUSA 09/16 - 09/17 707 LV 51 45 McCain +6
Miami Herald/SP Times 09/14 - 09/17 800 LV 47 45 McCain +2
CNN/Time 09/14 - 09/16 907 RV 48 48 Tie
It's stale.
No gold here. MD has McCain up be only 4 among men and 4 among folks over 50. He has McCain up by about the same amount for whites and Hispanics. MD has McCain only getting 80% of the Republican vote when every other poll has him above 90%. And finally this poll has Obama killing McCain among independents while a later poll by Rasmussen has McCain up by 10 among independents.
Conclusion has to be something is wrong with this poll I would think.

Do you think he bothered to look into the poll to see if it was flawed or contradicted other national polls in such a BLATANT area as McCain only getting 80% of the Republican vote and compare that to the other end of the spectrum where Hotline has McCain getting 95% of the “R” vote and over 90 in most every other poll I’ve seen.
He didn’t bother to look for a fatal flaw in the poll because that might be GOOD news. He COULDN”T WAIT to post a poll that showed McCain behind in Florida no matter how flawed the poll.
That’s who he is.
Or perhaps he is an embedded troll, a sleeper who has been hear for years. I suspect there are a number of them on this site.
No rose-colored glasses here. I’m just a realist. The debates haven’t even taken place, for goodness sakes.
hear=here
This is no time to go wobbly.
“..where have you gone, Joseph Lieberman, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you...”
Mason-Dixon was off on Bush/kerry by 18 points. way out side their margin of error.
