ROCKWELL — A Depot Street couple discovered Sunday that someone did more than just disagree with their choice for president.
Someone spray-painted a racial slur on the Barack Obama campaign sign in their front yard.
Sharon Osetek, who is black, and her husband, Alan Osetek, who is white, were leaving their Depot Street home Sunday morning when they discovered someone had spray-painted the word "n-----" on the Obama sign in front of their house.
The sign is blue with the names Obama and Biden printed in white. The sign is outlined in white and a lighter shade of blue.
Someone had sprayed the slur in white across the sign.
The couple were on their way to Obama's campaign rally in Charlotte Sunday and were leaving their home around 7:45 a.m.
On their way out of the driveway, Sharon noticed the writing.
"It was shock," she said. "Even though I knew I was in that type environment, it didn't really bother me until yesterday."
Alan was driving, and he didn't immediately get a good look at the sign. But Sharon did.
"I could pretty much make it out at the time," she said. "It was written on both sides."
Alan was a bit skeptical at first. He told his wife he didn't believe someone would actually write the "N word" on their sign.
But he soon saw it, too.
The couple decided to continue on to the rally, leaving the sign in place at the edge of their yard.
The Oseteks chose to leave the sign up to "show the ignorance that still goes on," Sharon said.
"I was hoping I didn't live in this type community," she said.
When they arrived home, the sign was gone. As they approached their front porch, it was lying near the steps.

I think at this point if a republican decides to vandalize a sign it would be with a firearm instead of a spraycan.
Like everyone else on this thread, I call BS.
Sign defacement is pretty much a Democrat ploy because whether they like the person or not, Republicans and other Conservatives have a deep abiding respect for private property and an innate aversion to vandalism of any type.
We just don’t think about things that way.
The Conservative reaction to an Obama sign would to to put out two McCain signs of his own, or maybe chip in with some other Conservatives to rent a billboard with his own tailor-made anti-Obama message.
Furthermore, any Conservative caught engaging in this kind of behavior knows full well that he would be castigated and reviled just as badly — or worse — by Republicans and Conservatives in general as he would be by the Liberals and the MSM. There’s no upside.
This goes DOUBLE if a racial slur was used.

Figured there had to be some bragging about it involved. The victim probably dropped the charges after finding out that it wasn't done by an evil "Repuke".
Since it’s Obama and they’re a mixed race couple, couldn’t they feign equal offense if they had spray painted “White Trash” on the sign?

I bet an Obama backer did that to play up sympathies. Either that or kids prank.
