The hack wasnt much of one anyway....all he did supposedly was reset the password....something anybody could do if your questions are publicly known and not personal enough. If you have a cheap lock on your house & I get in & steal from you -- it is still Breaking & Entering & Theft. The quality of the lock doesn't enter into it.

Accused VP Palin hacker hires lawyer. I think he's going to need one.
To: Tallguy
True. It certainly was still wrong, and he should go to jail for it.

And just how do you think this kid could afford this high priced lawyer to defend him? This is a Democrat problem and Obamas team fingerprints is all over it.That's why I wanted to see who is defending the kid. By their lawyers ye shall know them.

The Feds would pursue their charges, and Alaska would also have a bite at the apple if its laws allowed it.OK. Maybe. But it was Palin's private email account, not an official State email account. If somebody hacked my email I'd have a hard time imagining that Pennsylvania would prosecute the case, even in a secondary sense.
I'm not a lawyer, so your guess is as good as mine.

“Neither is the FBI.”
Which would be why all my commercial video tapes have FBI warnings on them against illegal copying.
Maybe some people are too young to remember that? Nah, they're on all my DVD’s, too.

The hack wasnt much of one anyway....all he did supposedly was reset the password....something anybody could do if your questions are publicly known and not personal enough. Not any technical wizardry at any rate, but if you take mail out of somebody's physical mail box "before it has been delivered to the person to whom it was directed, with design to obstruct the correspondence, or to pry into the business or secrets of another", it's a Federal violation.
But this kid may have a loophole, in that the law does not directly address email, only mail that has passed through entered the Federal Post Office system, e.g., snail mail.

You are wrong. Well, Oh Font of Wisdom, feel free to post something to prove me wrong.
You can start with the federal guidelines to which I referred in post 40.
To wit, simply downloading music is not sufficient to meet the requirements in the criminal statute. You must download over $2500, copy it 10 times or sell it.
Otherwise it's simply a civilly actionable offense.

Otherwise, get back under your bridge.
