Obama’s Tone Sharpens as Party Frets
NY Times ^ | 9/12/08 | Jeff Zeleny

DOVER, N.H. — Senator Barack Obama intensified his assault against Senator John McCain here on Friday, drawing sharp connections between his Republican rival and President Bush through a coordinated, partywide message as he confronts an invigorated Republican ticket and increasing nervousness among Democrats.

“The good news is that in 53 days, the name George W. Bush won’t be on the ballot.,” Mr. Obama told supporters here at an afternoon campaign appearance. “But make no mistake, George W. Bush’s policies will be on the ballot.”

Mr. Obama amplified his criticism of Mr. McCain through new television advertisements that portrayed the 72-year-old Mr. McCain as an out-of-touch politician with a long career in Washington. The ads — among the most pointed attacks to be put out by Mr. Obama — depicted Mr. McCain as he looked when he was first elected to Congress in 1982, an attempt to undermine the new argument from Mr. McCain that he is the candidate of change.

Obama’s WHOLE campaign in the General Election (in the primary, it was “Hope! Change!”) has been that he’s running against the eeevil George Bush. But people realize Bush is not on the ballot.

I hope they DO sharpen their focus and attack. The more they do, the more off script they are and prone to mistakes.

Does this mean Obama is going to increase his limp-wristed purse swings at Governor Palin?

And for the what its worth column, here is the population of Dover New Hampshire.

Dover, NH Population in July 2007: 28775.

That is absolutely incredible that so few people would want to go to an Obama rally given the potential (he once had) of being the President of the United States of America.

It would seem there would have been people who wanted to go just to be able to say they once saw Obama and then be able to tell their grandchildren about it.

Bring on the “angry young black man” - that’ll scare people into voting for him.

Bush will not be on the ballot? Obama WISHES he was.

I have to wonder if the Dems haven’t hurt themselves with this endless campaign. It started the day after the ‘06 election. By constantly dominating the news with Demo and GOP debates, that seems to have diminished GWB’s presence on the scene. It’s almost as if he has become irrelevant and people think he is a non factor. With that in mind, McCain and Palin have distanced themselves from him and seem to have transcended the party. That is why they have a good shot at winning.

I think Biden is already distancing himself from 0bama. He's pushing for 0bama to dump him and pick Hillary.

I thought I was the only one to think that it would not be Obama dumping Joe but Joe dumping Obama.

Talk about throwing somebody under the bus, saying Hillary was a "close, personal friend" and a better choice for VP than him.

When last seen at the Titanic ticket office, a man from Delaware was seen standing with a crystal ball and asking for a refund.
