This is an Ivy-Leaguer and hes very scripted. He doesnt just throw out phrases like lipstick on a pig and old fish in paper off-handedly; even to be coloquial. Especially not one right after the other. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I just said...
Let's call a spade a spade... the Obama campaign is like a treed coon these days.

With just a few tweaks to that pic he could look like the Joker.

I agree. The pundits today all missed the critical point, the timing of his first line, the pause, as the audience recognized that “lipstick” had a direct connection to Sarah Palin, the laugh and the cheers and then the completion of the line. When Sen. McCain used the same cliche in regard to Health care reform plans, he spoke in one continuous line...no wait for a laugh or cheers, just making the point with that admittedly tired cliche. Obama meant every word and was aiming at Gov. Palin, NO MISTAKE, INTENTIONALLY! To see the damage control today was sickening. No apology will be offered but, watch how long this will stay in the headlines.

Just look at the reaction of Obamas audience. They all knew what he was saying.
Up to this point, I could still think it was an accident on his part. Honestly, he's not that glib - but the CROWD clearly thought it was the "raw meat" they had been waiting for.
And he played it for all it was worth.
This is where, if it was an accident, he had the opportunity to correct it...instead, I think it dawned on him that "hey, it's even funnier if you take it THAT way", and he let it stand.

"Just look at the reaction of Obamas audience. They all knew what he was saying. And he played it for all it was worth." Not only that he gave the same speech twice after the same reaction from the audience.
Also there is a DNC memo dated Aug 30th with a picture of a girl pig on it!

I would like to know how Obama and Michelle are getting along together at home lately. He likes basketball so he has moves to dodge things. Maybe Hillary should train with Michelle?

I love how they asked the question... How could it NOT have been a slam against Sarah? Of course, the DNC and Obama’s campaign are now saying that the pig is Bush and the GOP, but no-one is going to fall for that... I have a feeling the 20% that have said “NO” are the extent of Obama’s Die-Hard supporters doing damage control.

Oh.
Someone in an earlier post mentioned that the poll had been closed. Then I saw your number and I thought that it was the final total.
I note that I was mistaken.

Well, darn. I tried again, and the site just shows the totals - no place to vote. Maybe I already voted and forgot all about it. . . ? I don’t think so, but who knows. Thanks for the posts of the continued update.

I’m willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt that he was just using a common phrase. But when I look at his audience that looked totally bored, and all of a sudden became energized as soon as he said it, there is no doubt they took it as a slam against Palin. So if they mistook what he said, what is so bad about us doing the same? Common phrase or not it was a rookie blunder to use that line.
