Investigation into Palin Now on Fast Track
ABC ^ | September 5, 2008 | Len Tepper, DNC Hack

ABC News has exclusively learned that Alaska Senator Hollis French will announce today that he is moving up the release date of his investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her office to get the Alaska public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, fired. The results of the investigation were originally scheduled for release Oct. 31 but will now come almost three weeks earlier, according to sources. The announcement is set for 9 a.m. AKDT time. The Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin had accused the McCain campaign of using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election. "It's likely to be damaging to the Governor's administration," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat, appointed the project manager for a bi-partisan State Senate Legislative Counsel Committee investigation. Palin, who has denied any wrongdoing and has said she has nothing to hide, has hired private lawyers to represent her in the matter.

I've got news for the Dhims. Now that the trooper is question has admitted to tazing his son and breaking the law, the other allegations against him look far more believable.

Most of America will decide that they would disappointed with a governor that didn't try to get rid of such a dirt bag and wonder why he is still a trooper.

Up to now every effort to smear Palin has made her more popular. I suspect this will be the same.

Talk about outright lies! The state of Alaska has hired the defense attorney for the sitting Governor; as do most other states in situations like this. Sarah Palin has hired NO ONE to defend her! The fired official himself said that Sarah NEVER threatened him or even gave an intimation; any ill will he felt came from members of her staff. Which they have said were their own opinions based on the dereliction of the one state trooper that the commissioner seemed incapable of disciplining!

And: Four days before the election in 1992, Clinton, Inc. managed to get a premature release of the fact that Caspar Weinberger had been indicted (by a liberal judge and jury) for Iran-Contra; which, of course, was a “scandal” simply because American Communist media and politicians couldn’t stand that the U.S. would stand up to communism in South America. The Weinberger story had a big, big impact on the election four days later, helping put Clinton into office.

” I haven't been following this story...”

The governor fired the state police commissioner because he wouldn't accept a transfer. Prior to that, he was getting heat from the governor's staff about his not dismissing a derelict state trooper (who was in repeated trouble for alcohol related offenses and violence.) who also was an ex-husband? of Sarah's sister. The commissioner himself said he was never threatened by the governor.

Some background on Senator French

Obama’s Man In AK: Hollis French Speaks Out On Palin
Talk about a conflict of interest. This guy French heading the Palin inquiry should either step down, or at least stop talking to the media. He’s been an Obama guy all along and is even listed on his site. What do you want to bet he won’t do either?

Hmm

Alaska state senator Hollis French, who is running an investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin, says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31st.

That’s funny. Here is what he was saying not all that long ago.

In August 2008, the Alaska Legislature hired Steve Branchflower to investigate Palin and her staff for possible abuse of power surrounding the dismissal.[58] Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who is overseeing the investigation, says that the Palin administration has been cooperating and that subpoenas are unnecessary.[59]

Would that be the Hollis French talking about the “energy” behind Obama’s campaign back in August?

Said state Sen. Hollis French, an Anchorage Democrat: “There is a real sense of energy coming off that campaign that is completely lacking from the other side.”

The same Hollis French listed on Obama’s website?

The following Alaska elected officials are supporting Senator Obama’s campaign for president:

State Senators (8)
Bettye Davis, Anchorage
Johnny Ellis, Anchorage
Kim Elton, Juneau
Hollis French, Anchorage
Lyman Hoffman, Bethel
Albert Kookesh, Angoon
Joe Thomas, Fairbanks
Bill Wielechowski, Anchorage

Sen. Hollis French:

“Senator Biden is one of America’s leading voices on national security. With decades of foreign policy experience and a son headed to Iraq, he will help make the right decisions that allow America to defeat terrorism, keep our country strong, and ensure that our veterans are honored for their service.”

“Senator Obama has a plan to end our dependence on foreign oil and reduce skyrocketing energy prices,” said Senator Hollis French of Anchorage, a former oil rig worker. “Having worked in the oil business in Alaska for twelve years, I know firsthand the importance of oil and natural gas to Alaska. Senator Obama will not only invest in renewable fuels and increase car fuel efficiency standards, he strongly supports construction of an Alaska natural gas pipeline and accelerated drilling in the Alaska National Petroleum Reserve which will provide affordable energy to Alaska and our country and good jobs for Alaskans.”

Notice how the press NEVER EVER reports what the trooper did and why they think Palin wanted him canned? If they were to actually report WHAT he did, there would be NO mercy for the man. They would CHEER Sarah, even if she did want him fired. For starters, the guy TASERED his 10-year-old step-son. His excuse? “Because the boy wanted me to”. How in the WORLD can such a guy keep that job? And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

The Weinberger story had a big, big impact on the election four days later, helping put Clinton into office.

If the story were being reported honestly, the only questions the public would have are:

(1) why wasn’t the rogue trooper fired?

(2) who in the “old boys” network of Union hacks and govt. protected him?

(3) should the guy have been prosecuted for child abuse?

(4) why are we even wasting time talking about this in relation to Governor Palin and the McCain/Palin campaign?

That’s the catch - nothing.

There would and could be no legal implications - but it would look bad, like she’s petty and secretive.

It’s all about just having the words, “Under Investigation” attached to her name every time it is printed.

An Oct 31 release date would do more to damage her, whether the charges are true or not. It would associate her with a negative story mere days before the vote. Delaying until after the first week of NOV would also reek of corruption. The early release date can only help.

What may work in our favor is the idea that the Democrats could pick up a Senate seat and perhaps, ultimately, usurp the Governorship by letting this go away and refocusing on Ted Stevens.

Someone may ultimately measure the weakness of the case vs. the gains possible in AK by focusing elsewhere and turn the page - much to the media’s dismay.
