Was Fred the one who mentioned that, because of his Vietnam POW injuries, McCain can’t lift his arms above shoulder height?

I didn’t know that before! (You know he has to endure ongoing pain from those injuries.)

Krauthammer was good too. Palin has and will keep the base, McCain was speaking to the independents and undecided.

"Last night on the Panel, Fred Barnes said that his son called him from college and said he had no idea about McCain’s POW experience. The Average Joe may have missed Fred and Co. telling the story...I thought it was very moving."

I'm decades past college. lol I've always known McCain was a POW at the Hanoi Hilton..I've read Denton's book When Hell Was in Session and Hell's Guest by Glenn Fraiser, yet I'd never heard McCain's personal story. I appreciated hearing from Fred last night as well.

McCain can tell his story on all networks everyday for the rest of his life and that would be ok with me. He, and others like him, earned that right, IMHO.

I'm not so sure the writer should be fired but the speech was delivered with the excitement of a bowl of oatmeal cooling. As I stated on another thread yesterday "Palin's got baggage, unfortunately it's John McCain." The speech tonight didn't change my mind.

I don't expect any post convention bounce other than what Palin brings with her.

Yes, and given the fact that I am quite confident that Palin will have no problem stepping in and, privately, teling him he’s wrong about something, I can stomach the less appealing aspects. A strong showing in the congressional races would go a long way to that as well. Personally, I think if they put Palin out there as much as she can tolerate, we have an outside chance of sweeping Congress as well.

He’s right on the issues that will be the most important in the coming years, and we’ll have enough clout to steer him in the right direction as well. The future looks awesome, even if it’s a second choice at the top for the present. I agree, it’s an acceptable second choice.

Especially since we cannot afford to have Obama as President on any level.

..actually, I think this is a very good contrast to John Kerry

As do I but I listened to Several speakers each night retell McCain's heroic history throughout the convention bring this up.

Like I said before America likes her heroes have an "aw shucks, it weren't nothing anybody else would do" attitude. And using it repeatedly makes it look like it's being used as an political gimmick, i.e. Kerry.

I pray that I am wrong. I despize what Obama and the media stands for. There is

Howard Wolfson turned back to his nasty self slamming McCain for not separating himself from Bush who was the elephant in the room. Huh? Even Chris Wallace was positive about it and the fighting theme. Nope, Howard said it wouldn't reach Independents. Well, too bad Howie—it's the REPUBLICAN National Convention.

Dr. K. said the opposite and thought it was aimed to Independents and he sounded disappointed. But then Charles wasn't thrilled with Sarah Palin either...everyone's whining about something.

Chris Wallace is now talking to that nutball Wolfson, who says the country is now center-left because of Pres. Bush. Alternate reality time.

The Left really believes that the country's hatred of President Bush translates into mass acceptance of Leftist policies.

I think they are incorrect about that, but we won't really know for sure until November.

repeating:

This much I do know: he was broken by our enemies in a foreign land, and vilified by our enemies here at home when he returned. He gave himself for this country, as so many other have done for America. John McCain does not have to give a great speech to convince me that he is a great American...

Wolfson is trashing the McCain speech: “He did not attack Bush enough because Bush is the worst president since WW2.” McCain needed to show those independents that he has separated from Bush, which he did not.” Wolfson went on, saying that this is a center-left country because of Bush.”

Well see Wolfson how wrong you are when your party loses in November.
