My first thought is OH OH. But then I thought it through, this shows a couple of things. First that the family is not above a normal family. Second, most American families will identify with the problems with situations that caused embarassment and pain.

The MSM does not respect the wishes of Republicans. Only Democrats.

deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.”

My 17-year-old daughter also got pregnant, had the baby, eventually married the guy....

And now has three beautiful children whom I love dearly.

The idea of an Ozzie and Harriet type family, while ideal, is not always 100% the result ... even among the best of parents.

I think McCain’s choice to put her on the ticket despite this says alot about McCain. Many think of Republicans as self-righteous and judgemental. This goes a long way toward showing that we aren’t.

Excellent point.

Well, a lot more people will be watching Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech because of this.

“This will significantly undermine McCain’s campaign effort.

I thought it was simply a lousy vetting process. Instead, its a major blunder by McCain. WOW!”

How?
Would it be better that Sarah Palin had aborted all of her 5 children in the past, and thus not have had any problems that those pesky children sometimes bring?
She has 5 kids, and kids sometimes do dumb things. Her daughter is not going to have the child slaughtered and dumped into a stainless steel sink in a abortion clinic. That is a good choice.

Are you a parent?

When Clinton was getting his Lewinsky's, all the Democrats said, MOVE ON!!! It's only sex! The Democrats better keep their mouths shut on this!

And before they were screaming "it's only sex", they were digging through Clarence Thomas' video rentals looking for a porno.

And before they were screaming "Bush lied!", they were telling the world how relentlessly Saddam the Terrorist was pursuing weapons of mass destruction.

What democrats said yesterday has absolutely no bearing on what democrats will say today. Constantly lying gives you that sort of flexibility.

If you've been following "Deadliest Catch" and do the mental arithmetic, the crew members earn more than many doctors and lawyers do in the lower 48.

When I visited Alaska on vacation, we went to a presentation by a professional fur trapper. He would tell us, "I get X for this pelt, and I trap about Z per season, and I get Y for this pelt, and I trap about Q per season." The season, IIRC, is no more than 6 months. I did the mental arithmetic and realized he makes about $70k in 6 months of work, not to mention the considerable amount he makes during tourist season with these presentations.

“If Obama was smart he would immediately issue a statement asking the press to lay off the candidate’s daughter in this private matter.”

If Obama was smart......that is the key phrase here.

The spotlight is off the solid conservative credentials of Sarah Palin and now focuses on her family. Conservatives have made family values an issue. This doesn’t help matters.

In a year when the GOP is hurting tremendously, this will only give some voters a reason to just say no to McCain. If you think McCain showed good judgment by picking Palin with this cloud hanging over her head, I’ll have to question your judgment.

Tell me again how two teenagers with less than a high school education are going to support a baby without our tax dollars?

In the case of Bristol Palin and her future husband? The way it generally happened before there was such a thing as welfare, the the way it STILL happens outside the welfare culture: the grandparents (on both sides) support the new parents until the father is in a better position to support his family

If McCain would discard her over this issue, he would be considered a hypocrite by the left. It’s a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation. Personally, I believe he did the right thing. If this is considered her major flaw, than McCain will win by a landslide.

I support Palin 100%. Probably 90% of teenage girls have sex. There is a very thin line between having sex and getting pregnant. Afterall, the main reason for sex is procreation. So, for those liberals who are having sex, they better keep in mind that sex leads to babies, whether one is pregnant now or not.

“Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter’s pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.”

Well, duh!!!!!!!!!!

oh, for Pete’s sake. Even Reagan wasn’t perfect in his personal life, but people admire his political ability.

I agree that it's a small problem.
I don't agree that it should call into question the Palin family values.

Here's the bottom line in my opinion. I just can't imagine a die hard Pentecostal or Southern Babtist going to the polls on November 4th and saying to themselves, "Gee, Sarah Palin's daughter got herself pregnant. I guess I'll vote for Barack Obama."

My parents were faced with the same situation 40 years ago.

My niece is an incredibly beautiful, talented Mother of 2, with her own business.

The world has definitely been enriched due to my niece’s presence. Baby is always a gift even if there are hardships along the way.
