ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Mrs. Palin said her daughter is going to keep the baby and the mother and father are going to get married and raise the child.
How is she being bailed out?
I understand the sentiment, particularly when expressed by the virtuous person I believe you to be, but I have to express caution toward using this tactic. Although shame can indeed be a powerful motivator in getting people to avoid premarital sex, it can also be an even greater motivator toward getting people to murder their unborn babies after they succumb to the aforementioned premarital sex. I have not figured out how to reconcile these two opposing outcomes, so I err on the side on not relying upon shame but rather reason to accomplish the first objective. I in no way wish to minimize the sin itself or the scandal it causes, but I wish to avoid that horror of that much worse second possibility.
If I might also add, it became apparent in looking at all of the pictures the last few days about Trig's maternity that there may be another force at play. From the way Bristol holds herself in the family pictures the last few years, I suspect that she may have some self-image problems related to her barely perceptible weight issue. This may be difficult for someone as attractive as yourself to understand, but I imagine that these self-image problems could be particularly difficult for the daughter of a former beauty queen politician. Although I make no excuse for the sin, I can imagine how this condition might have made it easier for some boyfriend to prey upon this girl's virtue.
I think we have a mix of sore losers whos primary candidate did not get the nod and just plain old trolls using them as useful idiots.
No Troll, I cite the statistics to show that throughout the history of this country, people and their children have been prone to bad decisions............thats the way people are.
And for you to come in here 5 days ago and start ragging on the daugher of Governor Palin is beyond the pale!
It was HANDS OFF CHELSEY CLINTON in the MSM as well as here on FR and it should be HANDS OFF GOVERNOR PALIN'S DAUGHTER here on FR...............
SO ANYTHING YOU GOT TO SAY ABOUT THE DAUGHTER, JUST KEEP IT TO YOURSELF OR TAKE IT BACK TO YOUR HOME ON DU..................
NEWBIE TROLLS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!
I am a very strong believer in woman doing jobs that were reserved previously to men.
But this mom needs to spend time with her kids.
Girls should not be having sex at 17. People survive teen pregnancy. And abortion is abhorrent. But if this happened to me it would be the focus of my life. I could not think of running for VP. Plus do you think the tabloids are going to leave this alone? Right or wrong. I so do not want Obama, but McCain made a bad decision. There has to be a better choice.
Sorry, jumped in at the end....
Wack me in the head.
I still feel bad for this child.
17 and noe being in the lghts...sad, I feel so bad for her.
So, all your outrage is not even over her sin with premarital sex but simply because you say she was foolish enough to have the baby. So, you think she should be shamed because she didn’t use proper birth control. I can’t even comprehend where you are coming from. If you aren’t throwing stones about her having sex then how are you getting so mad. Pre-marital sex is sin but being pregnant is not a sin.
Thank you, Melas, but he owes me nothing. I was the one who brought up my own past hoochieness.
Heh. Interestingly enough, Mrs. Lynne Spears probably has more "meat" in her resume than Mr. Obama.
This goes back to post 675, in which I had the audacity to report that I’ve observed that some people think that unmarried teen moms shouldn’t rear their babies.
I think I need to join the church a lot of these people go to. You can do any darn thing you please as long as you are sorry afterwords.
Well said navymom1, well said.
Clearly, some individual discussions have devolved into absurdness. The fact that some Evangelicals and other social conservatives will decide not to vote for McCain in November, is not absurd. Its reality. That was the point I was offering from the very beginning. McCain knew about this and still went ahead with his choice of Sarah Palin. Then Palin said, she was okay with it. IMO, that is poor judgment all the way around --- yesterday, today and tomorrow.
That may not bother some folks. It sure makes me uneasy.
I’m sorry, it is an old habit. In the words of Rosana Rosana Dana, “never mind”
Obama can’t compete on the positions.
What can he say? about marriage? about the 2nd amendment? about abortion? about military command?
The DNC knows they HAD only 48 hours at most to balkanize and smear palin. Gustov cut that.
They also have the dead cat bounce.
Obama start this wee LOWER than his first convention day.
That is bad.
Now we see how we can help the downticket.
Fair enough then. I personally just don't like the inference. I myself wouldn't even use the term to describe the likes of Britney, but hey, I'm all sensitive and ----.
“I disagree, giving birth control to you children is pure evil. And I am not going to Hell for nobody, no way. “
Why? if we find it OK to have sex why do we oppose birth control?
DS, my man, how do you think someone unmarried GETS pregnant?
Hint: it involves pre-marital sex.
