ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Children are not robots.
Really good kids sometimes come from really bad parents.
Likewise, really bad kids somtimes come from good parents.
Having said that, this girl made a decision and is living with the consequences.
She is now a mother, and her own mom’s teaching that life is sacred has obviously rubbed off on her.
She is not running to PP to kill her child. She is accepting the responsibility for the choices she has made.
Despite the opinion of death-peddlers like BO, she is not gonna kill her little “punishment.”
How many millions of parents deal with stuff like this every day?
They are thoroughly confused, and you can bet Barama is too
YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I’m GOOOOOOOD
:)
thank you
Shame on you, NYPost.
I don't think that's such a problem. She still has those conservative credentials. There's plenty of time to talk about them again. The media sure won't spend a whole lot more time harping on how wonderfully conservative she is. If the media and the Dems want to touch this powder keg, good on them. It keeps the networks going all-Palin-all-the-time for another news cycle. The longer that continues, the more nasty things that Dem operatives will say. The more nasty things said, the more voters they tick off and send our way.
Conservatives have made family values an issue. This doesnt help matters.
I guess this depends on how you define 'family values'. If you're going to define such values as a situation where a 17yr old never has pre-marital sex, point taken. However, I contend that such a situation is not what defines the term.
If you look past the lapse in judgment that got Bristol pregnant, what you see is the loving, caring, and tight-knit family that is coming together to handle the challenge. They aren't trying to cover anything up for political gain. They aren't running off to Planned Parenthood for a quick 'fix' for their 'problem'. They are handling this as adults, and more importantly, together as a family. If this isn't what family values are really all about, then I don't know what is.
Bristol is going to marry the father of her child. The media will question this endlessly, bring up visions of shotguns, etc. This will backfire on them in a devastating manner. You're going to see hardcore Dems getting pissed about the treatment this girl receives. And rightly so.
I also think we need to give the McCain camp a bit more credit here. They have been executing things flawlessly over the last couple of months. They could have released this info on Friday, but for some reason, they wanted to keep the Palin bashing in the forefront for another news cycle, (now that the Sunday shows are over) going into the convention. I imagine there is a plan to deal with this issue at the convention. Perhaps even a speech from Bristol herself. Whatever the plan is, if McCain's recent actions are any indication, it is well orchestrated, and will come clear when it's supposed to.
So, cheer up, will ya? If we wanted plastic candidates with phony, 'perfect', families, we could have had Slick Willard. :)
No matter how perfect we think they are, we're always wrong. They're just human. Life's unexpected twists & turns happen to us all.
You seem alone in that resoning
If this is nothing but a "boy and girl make a baby and get married" story, I doubt many will be negatively influenced. I would not count this as a strike against Palin, and not (yet) as a strike against her daughter.
You seem alone in that reasoning
I wonder if you’ve ever been to Alaska?
Don’t you have a dead horse somewhere that you can go beat?
Ronald Reagan's, Patti and Ron Jr. were no prize children. Ronald Reagan was a great president who was elected by wide margins.
Eh ???????????????
Who are you calling a brat?
He looks Eskimo to me.
I don’t think this will effect most evangelicals much. I am a conservative evangelical who grew up in a conservative homeschooling family. A lot of my friends growing up were from ATI families - even so several of the kids in my youthgroup made mistakes like this while growing up. People thought it was unfortunate but noone blaimed the parents and everyone was wishing the youth the best success in getting married and quickly transitioning to responsible adults. So, I think most conservative christians will look at this the same way. They won’t blame Sarah Palin and they will wish the best for Bristol and Levi as they have to grow up and get responsible very quickly.
Nobody cares. Nobody at all.
And the fact there are 1,000 replies to this thread proves that nobody cares. So to all you "who cares" types out there: Just continue to bury your head in the sand and pretend....
no body cares.
In the meantime - in the real world - McCain/Palin just took a huge nosedive among conservatives.
Charlie Howard is my State Rep. in Texas. He is the most conservative rep in the state, a Southern Baptist Deacon, a homeschooler, and the father of a daughter who got pregnant during his first term. She kept the child and got married. He has been reelected several times since by wide margins.
