Like the McCain spokesman said, "Life happens". As I sit here in the Bay Area, so many of my fellow 30, 40, and 50-something "exciting active adults" have become members of the Darwinian Dead-Enders Club. (I myself am also unfortunately in that club.) Pregnancy is thought of like a cancer diagnosis, and gets basically the same course of treatment.
Seventeen is young, to be sure, and this will make getting a higher education harder work - but far, far from impossible. Maybe she'll miss out on "getting drunk 'till you puke" college parties, but you know what? Looking back, some of those are fun memories, but if I could trade those memories for a family right now, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
