The infection on Jim's right ankle flared up again about three weeks ago. They tried treating it with antibiotics but they had no effect.
When Jim went in on Wednesday for followup visit and possibly a new prescription, they admitted him for tests and intravenous antibiotics. He was told that he would be there until at least Monday.
They are not anticipating more surgery at this time.

Prayers are going up for your complete healing.
I have to tell you though, I definitely need a break right about now. My ex-husband who has chronic lymphocytic leukemia is also in the hospital fighting a staph infection which has spread into his blood stream.
He’s decided his best cure is some of my spaghetti and a roast since he likes the way I make those better than anyone elses. I’m still not doing all that whoopee after my stomach surgery over 2 years ago so I’m finding it necessary to conserve my energy where I can make him a roast and make up/freeze a big pot of spaghetti.
Now, since I’m going to be hanging out in the kitchen anyway where I can cook him his requested favorites, what’s your special request? I promise not to serve any of those nasty, stinky, appetite destroying scrambled eggs all hospitals insist on slopping on your morning breakfast plate! Hey, you can request anything from some great Tex-mex to the steak of your choice to anything else your heart desires.
Would you just please get well regardless? We need you now more than ever. In the meantime, we’ll keep the homefires burning awaiting on your speedy recovery and return. God’s blessings upon you and yours.
Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.
My prayers are with you Jim, may you have a full and quick recovery.
Oh Crap! sorry to hear this. Thanks for the thread on this Amy.
Jim you are in my prayers for strength to fight off this dastardly problem!
These doggone staph/strep infections seem to be impossible to really get rid of.
My theory is that they “encapsulate” when assaulted with antibiotics etc.. after a certain amount of time the capsule dissolves & the virus or bacteria involved is back in business..
I have had several friends/family with this problem & in each case it took years to correct. My 2nd theory is that one of the keys is to protect & enhance the immune system so IT CAN DO THE JOB of attacking the virus or bacteria involved
Prayers for you and the family, Jim.

Actually he has. Nice quote from Rush:
He's a man of few words for the most part, but has been posting from the hospital."RUSH: Sarah Palin: babies, guns, Jesus. Hot damn!"Amen!
The last time (when he was in for surgery) they wouldn't let him have his laptop in his room.
Maybe now they know who he is...LOL
Thank you for the info on our beloved Jim. Prayers will be said for Jim, his family and the medical professionals that are caring for him.
Prayers for Jim.
Prayers up for Jim and family! Why didn’t the dumb-a$$ doctors do the intravenous antibiotics first?!! After all that Jim has been through! What stupidity!

Hey, Jim,
This is a long-shot, but my brother had what they at first thought was a major infection on the skin of his ankle, but it - much later - turned out to be a fairly rare (but known) auto-immune issue... I think it was called pyoderma grangrenosum. Very painful; basically the skin looks like it is burned off down to the muscle/tendons and spread over the whole foot and ankle.... 2 1/2 years later; he can finally function without extreme pain, it is under control, and they ended up doing major skin grafts that have mostly healed. It took almost two years before they really figured out what triggered it - and now in retrospect, it is clear what they missed initially...
If you (Jim) have this go on and on and worsen, and they just can’t diagnose it... I suppose it is possible that they may need to check for auto-immune disorders such as this one which can be triggered by certain issues in the gut. Hope it isn’t that serious! If this could be you, let me know, and I’ll tell you what they finally figured out - it wasn’t at all obvious until it was known after the fact, and then it seemed so obvious ...
Sincere best wishes,
