Specific, real life, example of the Palin Effect...
vanity

Posted on 08/31/2008 6:55:42 AM PDT by repubzilla

OK-My family went over to my parents for dinner last night...I'm a bit slow today-(I toasted the Palin choice a wee bit much) My father was a Mitt fan-I, by the way, called for Palin months ago. He came over to her quickly I must say... They told us about their neighbor, who happens to be a fairly liberal (although she voted for Reagan), college Prof, in her late 40's...oh and is also a lesbian. She came by and they were chatting and she starts going on and on about how great it is that Mccain picked Palin...really excited! AND that she will vote for him!

Well, I know this is only one example-but hey!

I really must say with the way I’ve described how excited I am...I still have a little voice of worry about debates and interviews when it comes to the press asking questions about Sunni, Shia, etc-like they pulled with W last election. I’m confident she will do well but hairpugs will be all over those questions...

Again with the sports analogy (my wife just told me she hates those!) When I was watching the Superbowl I kept thinking...”Oh God Eli don’t blow it” and then as the game progessed...well you know what happened-we will have our Eli-Tyree moment! I’ll end the sports references!

What men have to realize is that many women, even with disagreeing political positions, like to see other women advance. Only the severely rationally-disabled, bitter hags of the NOW stripe probably do not sympathize with Palin. I guarantee that there’s millions of usually Dem-voting women who will be pulling the lever (or punching out the chad) for Palin in November.

I have a friend whose mother is an FDR Democrat. She also indicated her intention to vote for McCain/Palin.

My 87 year old mother, also an FDR democrat, told me more than a month ago that she would be voting for McCain. Palin on the ticket will only help solidify that position.

I’ll be happier about a surge in support from conservatives and moderates than one from liberals. I don’t want McCain to feel any more beholden to them than he already does!

McCain's getting a surge in support from conservatives, moderates AND liberals! That's how he'll win this election. I'm not worried that he'll become more beholden to libs, especially since his pick of Sarah shows he's beholden to Conservatives.

McCain took in a 7 million dollar haul Friday and Saturday, much of that from those like me who were not going to donate unless McCain picked a conservative veep. The Palin pick has united the GOP and brought excitement to the race. That is a pretty dang good surge from conservatives.

Here was my take...

I was watching the live feeds YESTERDAY. Mac and Sarah in Penn and Obama Biden in Ohio...

It was strikingly dis similar...

Penn... Up beat... Pos... not one neg mention of the opponent... Kudos to Hillary... Sarah built up Mac....and told us about herself. Talked about our country... etc.

contrast with...

Ohio...

Bloveeeateing Biden...(who was obviously registering above .05 alcohol...second time now... you could see the look of exaspiration on Obama’s face as if he were saying...”God, why did “we” pick this guy...?) for about 30 minutes on what a scoundrel Bush and McCain...are...Talking about himself...and I think if I’m not mistakin drawing from the plagierism...of the past ....

THen “finally” introducing Obama...

The contrast was monumental.... One of pos and one of negative...

If this country picks them...then something is really wrong here...and it’s the start of the fall of the roman empire...

You’re not alone. My best friends wife is literally a Berkeley California liberal. Anti-gun.pro choice. pro gay. Yet even she has been won over to McCain because of the Palin pick. HOORAH

Yes, it’s just that unfortunately, McCain has a history of bending to his liberal colleagues on things. So, I hope that the conservative support he gets is much louder than the liberal support, so that he has the motivation to carry our water instead of theirs, that’s all. If he gets it in his head that ex-Hillary supporters are his major constituency we’re in for a tough four years.

McCain needs to step back, bask in he glow, and take credit only for rescuing the Republican party for years to come, and for being the father of the post-boomer Republican party. A generation of Palins, Jindals, Cantors, etc.

Actually, I think this is brilliant strategic thinking.

McCain should step back and let Palin basque in the sunlight. Why? True, she's a major headliner right now. It calls the base and disaffected, alienated democrats and independents to them.

More importantly, it keeps McCain from overexposure and allows him to peak more slowly prior to the election. We don't want an "Obama Style Burnout", we want the movement to grow steadily until it peaks on election day.

Well, that's just me yappin'. Maybe it's the coffee. Who knows? Cheers!

Here is my similar story. My wife is very liberal. I am a conservative political junkie. On Friday evening I ask my wife if she had heard about McCain’s VP choice. She had not. I went on to tell her he had picked the Governor of Alaska. She had no clue who that was. I then went on to describe the governor’s credentials; 44years old, pro-life, pro-second ammendment, fiscally conservative, 5 kids with the 6 month old a downs syndromn child she chose not to abort. Never did I let on that the Governor was female. This went on for about 5 minutes. While my wife was quickly losing interest, I dropped the bomb, I told my wife that “SHE” has been in office for only 2 years.

Well you could not believe the change in my wife’s attitude. It was like I had flipped a switch. She immediately went to the TV to get the latest news on her. She was visibly excited and stunned. She kept commenting what a brilliant choice this was by McCain.

This has now forced quite the connundrum upon her. I know she was going to vote for Obama, but now she is definitely looking at voting for McCain. If that becomes the case, it will be the first time since I have known her that she will have voted for a republican president.

This is by far been the best presidential race in my lifetime.

Your point is the wife's exactly. She said that men had been screwing up the country (overspending, energy, you name it)for years, and a woman wouldn't put up with that. She said that it's time to give a woman a chance because they could hardly do worse than men! She has a point, but we need to make sure it's the right woman. I think we just stumbled upon that right woman.

I’m voting for Palin and whoever she’s running with. If you can’t have Duncan Hunter, this is the next best thing.

For months, during our devotions we’ve prayed to God to have mercy on our country (in spite of San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi, etc.), and for Him to perform a miracle to change the direction of the election. It seems that He has given us this gift.

I have inlaws who are semi-informed independents. Hillary supporters. Have no respect for GWB. Voted for Clinton and Reagan. Middle class folks. I spoke to them before the veep picks/conventions. My belief is that they are the perfect profile of the voters who will determine this election. I say whoever they vote for is the winner. They were already for McCain last we spoke. I'm waiting til the conventions are over to re-interview them. They gave a 100% certainty rating that they'd vote McCain.

I'm curious if that still stands, and what their reaction is to the latest developments. Now, with Gustav on the way, my second interview may be delayed. And then there are the debates. I feel pretty confident that the more ppl get to know Palin, the more they will like her. I believe if anything the veep choices will have intensified their already high (100%!) certainty.

The debates and events in the world/country can still change things mightily. But for now I think the Hillary swing voters of all stripes are probably more likely to vote McCain now than they already were.

As my six year old granddaughter would say, "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

From what I recall, she's the mother of five well fed children. No need for pant suits for her.

That John McCain does have a good eye for women.

And talk about eyes. WOW!

I’m a big Giants fan too, and their playoff run and SB victory pumped me up like never before (as far as sports is concerned). 2008 started on a great note, and will end on an even better note with McCain/Palin taking down the socialist POS B-HO.

I wouldn’t have thought the feminists would support McCain-Palin. Guess I was wrong!

There are many feminists (such as in Feminists for Life, of which Palin is a member) among the population at large who do not hate men and are not snarky left-wing a-holes.

Some feminists actually do want simply to see women get ahead and expand options. These feminists have every reason to celebrate Palin's nomination. The problem is that the movement was hijacked, as so often in the last forty years, by Marxist crackpots and malignant radicals.
