As a result of yesterday's stunning news about Sarah Palin, the next Vice President of the United States, many Freepers have decided to contribute to the McCain campaign.

TODAY is the LAST day that you can contribute to the McCain campaign. Tomorrow, public financing (ugh!) kicks in and they cannot accept donations any more.

If you want to participate, do it TODAY.

FEC ANNOUNCES UPDATED CONTRIBUTION LIMITS

WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission today announced revised contribution limits which have been indexed for inflation and are effective for the 2007-2008 elections for President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives.

During the current election cycle, individuals may contribute up to $2,300 per election to Federal candidates, up to $28,500 per year to national party committees, and a combined total of up to $108,200 during the two year period to all Federal campaigns, parties, and other political committees.  The following table lists the contribution limits for 2007-2008.

To state, district & local party committee per calendar year

To any other political committee per calendar year

* These contribution limits are increased for inflation in odd-numbered years.

The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA) included provisions that indexed some contribution limits for inflation.  The limit for individuals’ contributions to candidates, for example, was set at $2,000 per election in BCRA and is adjusted at the start of each new election cycle. Adjustments are announced after the Department of Labor determines the inflation rate (i.e., the change in the price index for the relevant period) for the previous election year (in this case 2006). The new limit on contributions from individuals to candidates was effective retroactively to the day after the last general election ended (e.g. November 8, 2006).  Other new limits were retroactively effective January 1, 2007.

Been a member of “not another damn dime” club til pubs learn to act like they won something when they win. Even dropped a note to the campaign telling them to stop bothering me with emails.

I wasn’t one of those who was going to objectively vote for the marxists because my “principles” wouldn’t let me vote for McCain, but I was def not happy that he was the “choice”.

However, Palin is the gamebreaker that the previous month’s smart, push back, campaign foretold. So....$100 to McCain/Palin.

On johnmccain.com, on the donation page, one of the options (the one I chose) is $xx per month from now until 11/30/08. So why would they have that option if they can’t accept the donations?

I donated right after the Saddleback appearance, emailing McCain with the promise: “There’s more coming if you pick a truly Conservative running mate”. Last night I made only the second political donation of my life.

I don’t care for many of McCain’s positions. I FReeped him at his “Sedona ranch”(ten minutes from my house) when Daschle spent a weekend. But the next time he returns (hopefully with Sarah) I will be there to beFRiend him!

You might want to ask the moderator to put the donate link in your first post? https://secure.johnmccain.com/Contribute/ContributeF.aspx

That is the way I read it. Too bad, since Palin is helping him bring in the dollars.

I hope there's a big spike in donations referencing Governor Palin. That should send the GOP a message about adhering to its CONSERVATIVE BASE.

Perhaps a stupid question, but here goes...

If you get it postmarked before midnight tonight, will it still be able to be accepted? If not, I’ve gotta go figure out how to “re-load” my credit card!

We really need someone with a bit of inside knowledge to confirm this. I was under the impression that he only accepted public financing for the primaries. That’s why the blurb from his site specifically mentions “primary” contribution.

I thought he didn’t accept public financing for the general election.

But I just donated because of Palin.

Me too. Hadn't planned on it, either, but how things change in 24 hours.

Now I'm looking for a McCain/Palin bumper sticker and yard sign, something I never imagined I'd be doing before yesterday as well.

I called to check this out. As long as the funds are physically in their hands by today, they can use it -this includes credit card donations. Today - August 30 is the last day! I don't think postmarks count - its physically in their hands.

I just donated and put Sarah Palin as the "friend" who referred me.

Phone donation: Call it in to 703-418-2008

Checks mailed today, tomorrow or after that will go to the RNC - not to the McCain campaign. Today Aug 30 is the last day and the funds must be physically in their hands today. Credit card donations are OK up until midnight.
