Washington, D.C. August 18, 2008 While there is no ballot box at the bar, DCs best bartenders can identify political preference by cocktail selection and bar behavior. According to a survey released today, Democrats are seen as better tippers, have better pick-up lines and give better toasts. Republicans heavily outweigh Democrats when it comes to ordering their drink straight up. Parties are at a stalemate over drinking hours, with Republicans edging out for the first to arrive a happy hour and Democrats being the last to go home.
The survey was issued today by Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. [Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE:FO)], a global leader in premium spirits, in collaboration with Clarus Research Group. Approximately 100 bartenders in the Washington, DC area were surveyed on their opinions of patrons cocktail preferences.
According to the survey results, bartenders in Denver should know that theyll hear better toasts while the bartenders in Minneapolis wont need as much ice with their patrons ordering drinks straight up, stated Bobby G Gleason, master mixologist for Beam Global Spirits & Wine.

Greeks and Italians are great tippers, as are affluent Latin Americans. Arabs, Israelis, French Canadians, blacks, and women of all nationalities are lousy tippers. This is what I noticed back in the days when I worked for tips.
I would have loved to have served Teddy Kennedy.
(batting red, baggy eyes) Hi, my name's brUUUUthie, I can put my ankles behind my head!
“dims are great tippers when they are spending OPM (Other Peoples Money).”
Yea — The Clintons come to mind!
“Who is more likely to order a fruity (pink) drink?”
Lindsey Graham?
Barney Frank?
I’m a good tipper, too...because I had to suffer through lousy tippers when I was a waitress. So did my daughters. We all tip like crazy women.
Right you are. If a Democrat is drinking via “expense” account, then tipping is their game. It’s another way of spending “others” money.
Those were pretty much my observations. Irish men were good tippers, too.
So let me get see if I get this straight “DCs best bartenders can identify political preference by cocktail selection and bar behavior.”
If they use the parton’s behavior to determine their political preference? That sounds like they just associate whatever behavior the view postively or negatively based on their own political leanings.
What a moronic poll. If you want to know about patrons political leanings and their behavior you would poll them and not the bartender. If you want to know about bartenders you poll them.
I tip well just to make up for those jerks. Now, that I think about it, those guys were probably dems!
It’s a moronic poll. In this poll the bartenders are the pollsters and then they are in-turn polled themselves.
What’s the margin of error like 100% ?
Easy order.
No ice. No glass.
Any Anejo with one piece of ice for me. I reckon that's just stupid, but it's what I like.
LOL! I had one - a regular - who used to take his false teeth out and put them in his water glass to announce that he had finished his meal. And for him a quarter would have been generous. I never thought to ask his political affiliation, though...
Republicans aren’t into sugary and sappy like libs.
In the halcyon days of my misspent youth, tattoos on women were a tremendous time-saver; allowing me to quickly distinguish between the possible and the probable. Smoking served a similar function; and, regarding a tattooed woman who smoked, it was simply a question of when, not if.
Best Pick-up line.... So, will those red shoes take us all the way to Kansas?
Worst: How do you like your eggs in the morning?.....Drop dead answer: fertilized.
Are you a nurse? Serving Teddy would require knowing how to set up an IV.
This conservative woman tips 20%.
If I’m at one of our local places and know the waiter/waitress, it’s 25%.
Why do women always get a bad rap when it comes to tipping? I appreciate the hard work of people in the restaurant business.
Wild turkey with a splash
