"Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee who has endorsed John McCain, is being vetted as a potential running mate for the Republican presidential hopeful, according to an adviser to Mr McCain’s campaign."

"Conservatives would be pissed as hell – I think you would have a revolt, but sometimes John does what John wants to do,” the McCain adviser said.

He's the only guy I ever heard of who wrecked three planes, started a fire causing our own men to die, and was still considered a hero after being shot down.

Well, if you dig waaaaaaay back, there is some indication that McCain's involvement in the Forrestal incident was more than the latest 'official' version being told. Many of the websites claiming McCain was responsible cite a scenario that is not consistent with news reported during the first hours/days following the tragedy. My guess is that any real evidence is long gone and buried by now. Along with all of the Vietnam POW records.

I'm still wondering if the Jane Fonda wing of the Dems is going to dig out one of the 20+ propaganda tapes that McCain made for the Vietcong. Probably not, though. I don't think they want to highlight their own traitorous actions anymore.

Is that what you want for our country?

If my country requires that me, my family, and everything that I believe in be exterminated, then SC--W my country. Being a 'Good German' was stupid for the Germans. It was suicide for the German Jews!

Do you see a reason to facilitate the election of Obami?

O.K., let me explain this again and maybe you'll get it this time.

If 1,700,000,000 voters in my state (Connecticut) vote for Obama and 450,000 vote for McCain, Obama easily wins the popular vote in Connecticut and captures it's 7 electoral votes. He'll need 270 to win the election.

Are you still with me? Good.

If I don't vote for McCain but instead, vote for some independent candidate, that will mean that 1,700,000 votes still go to Obama and 449,000 now go to McCain. Even if every registered Republican in my state (408,000) voted for McCain, he would still lose and Obama would still get the 7 electoral votes. Got that?

So, my (theoretical) vote for McCain, a man I disagree with on many, many political and cultural issues, would not come close to changing the electoral votes Obama will get from winning the popular vote in Connecticut, which he is pretty much guaranteed to win, based on demographics and past election results and almost always going to the Democrat candidate. 'Unaffiliated' voters are heavily represented in Connecticut (almost 1 million) but they usually vote Democrat and probably register as 'unaffiliated' to kid themselves that they're not really liberal Democrats or else just to keep the DNC from pestering them for donations.

Why should I vote for a man whose politics I disagree with only slightly less than I disagree with those of Barack Obama? Especially when my vote cannot counter the overwhelming amount of votes Obama will receive in this traditionally liberal state? That makes no sense.

My voting for an independent presidential candidate, while voting the rest of the Republican ticket in no way 'facilitates' the possible election of Barack Obama. To believe that it does places symbolism over substance.

I think those who may live in Republican-friendly states with a strong conservative presence in each election simply do not grasp the difficulties inherent when you're a political conservative living in a very liberal state basically run by leftist Democrats with a near-moribund Republican party. Just 'voting Republican' doesn't mean much when 75% of the citizens in your state vote Democrat in every election, filling the legislature, the mayor's offices, court benches and many important offices with liberals. When it comes to the Electoral College calculations, Connecticut is solidly in the Obama camp and one vote for McCain, a man I strongly disagree with, especially on amnesty for illegal aliens, just doesn't make much sense, if you look at thr realities involved.

While I hope and pray that Obama will lose the election (and I think that'll happen) I'm less than enthused over the 'moderate maverick' McCain and I will not vote for him. I know McCain privately sneers at my political and some of my cultural beliefs. That is his privilege. It is my privilege to not give him my vote in this election. I've carefully explained the reasons why. If you cannot understand them or simply don't care, so be it. That is my decision.

>>>>>>They are the right people at the right time in our nation’s history to stop our march toward MARXIST SOCIALISM.

You never cease to amaze me. McCain's a moderate at best. He is liberal on several key issues, like immigration. Other than supporting the WOT and the battle for Iraq, Lieberman is a hardcore leftist! He's pro-abortion and supports the nanny-state liberalism.

Speaking of having “no more patience for this nonsense”, that act alone would more than likely cause me to quit the Republican Party.

Same here.

For me it will be time to go Independent and hope to make the difference the Republican party fails to make. Idiot is trying to reach the Independent so maybe then I'd have a chance of being courted.

Ooooh! If only we could each have our 1 vote count as 1000, then we might be able to beat these libs! ;-)

Just jokin' with you. Your point is well taken and right on target.

He said it some time back. Therefore, this is just more of the same to keep McCain in the news....sounds like McCain is having fun with the VP guessing game. I’ve been told McCain was the ringleader as a POW and played head games with his captors...LOL...

I think POTUS McCain...having WON without the support of the wacky RIGHT fringe...will be able to use the mid-term elections in 2010 to further stop the extremists in both parties from gaining influence...
McCain...and Lieberman are the perfect choices to flip off the Far Left and Far Right...and get this country running smoothly again.

I am a Goldwater Conservative.
...And if Ronald Reagan were alive and lucid today...he would agree with me. He understood that the country has a penchant to go Left...
Now that the contrast between the parties is clearer...and Cultural War is being fought in the open...we need to win elections....not cling to one-or-two issues...demanding litmus tests of our candidates.

So many contradictory statements! I'll just ask a few questions:

1) Did Mr. Goldwater pick a Democrat for his running mate?

2) Did Mr. Reagan, in either presidential election, pick a Democrat for his running mate?

3) "Now that the contrast between the parties is clearer...and Cultural War is being fought in the open," shouldn't we demand a simple "litmus" test for the two people on our presidential ticket - membership in the Republican Party?

In fact, "McCain...and Lieberman" are NOT "the perfect choices" for anything. The so-called 'maverick' could just as easily be called 'erratic.' And Lieberman is a Democrat...

“which of course is based on the advice of none other than the dick morris...”

I don’t see any thing to be gained just floating names for the heck of it. And it can irritate many voters who are having a problem resigning themselves to vote for McCain.

But since you mentioned Dick Morris, I’m still trying to learn who’s winning the “Condi vs. Hillary” match-up he turned into a book a while back.

“The so-called ‘maverick’ could just as easily be called ‘erratic.’”

It wasn’t too many months ago that the phrase “temperamentally unsuited to be president” was heard fairly often. Not so much any more, but I’ve long suspected that McCain is possessed of some psychological quirks that maybe should, or maybe shouldn’t give us pause. He doesn’t need to be toying with the voters or making a game of the VP selection since so many still have a problem with his candidacy.

A number of us out here think floating names is a tactic to keep McCain in the news.

I'm not a McCain fan at all. But I'm voting for him whether I warm up to him or not; either you vote for McCain or not. If you choose not to then one is actually pulling the lever for Obambi.

I personally have NEVER voted for the man it's always been the party.

You can embrace all of those Hillary supporters, if you like. One has to wonder why you'd stick around FreeRepublic if that is the kind of "conservative" you appreciate.

Get with it, calcowgirl. This election isn't about pushing a conservative agenda. Thank God. We'd get creamed if it were.

Hopefully, you and I can do that in 2012. Together.

All signs read the RATS are going to lose BIG in 2010. Thank you Nancy and Harry.

But I don't want Obama choosing 2...or more SCOTUS positions before 2010. And neither should you.

I am not the enemy, calcogirl. I'm just a big-picture guy.

actually it depends on who's floating the names

dick morris has his to sell his book
talk show hosts have theirs for obvious reasons

for me, an entertaining (or annoying) pastime, depending on the name being tossed about (:

Figures that Lieberman was McCain’s pick for VP running mate...the one pick to which most conservatives did not want ended up being the pick by McCain...McCain/Lieberman ‘08....ouch like Rush said: “We are really screwed.”
