Hmmm, interesting. May be you can help me understand something? Americans are blase about Puerto Rico. It is a beautiful island and a lovely people. If Puerto Rico wants independence fine. We would love that for obvious reasons. Puerto Rico to date has not been able to convince its population to cut the umbilical cord.

Why does Russia care about the little countries? Once Russia embraces liberty for all, pursuit of happiness for all, the little countries will come back running to once again be part of Russia. The same goes for Taiwan and China. It will happen if Russia pursues higher ideals. Instead Russia pursues the likes of Saddam and Iran and assassinations with Polonium-210. I don't understand Russia's choices.

I believe the 1,500 civilian dead are the numbers of S. Ossation civilians that the Seperatists and Russians are claiming have been killed by the Georgian military. I expect that the numbers of civilian dead are probably being vastly exagerated. However, to blaim these civilian deaths on the Russian troops is to completely misread the article.

Russia plans to move naval ships toward Abkhazia: US

Published: 8/9/2008

WASHINGTON - Russia is planning to move parts of its Black Sea fleet towards Georgia's rebel Abkhazia region, a US State Department official said Saturday.

"We have been notified that Russia has plans to move elements of its Black Sea fleet to Abkhazia, to Ochamchira, ostensibly to protect their civilians ... a couple of cruisers, or large scale naval vessels," said the official, asking to remaining anonymous.

Russia may well use what has happened as an excuse to try and annex all Abkhazia or possibly all of Georgia. We should exert all of the diplomatic pressure that we can to prevent that from happening. However, I can understand Russian anger about having several of its troops attacked and killed by the Georgians right after Russia had negotiated a cease fire between the Secessionists and the Georgians.

posting that pic demonstrates how superficial your postings are.

There are thousands of photos of Bush and Putin hugging and holding hands....

And as many if not more of Bush and the Saudis all cozy...

And smiles and giggles with the Chi coms...

Cool. Let's restore all regions of the world back to their political status over one hundred years ago. And why stop there? Let's go to the 1800's and totally break apart Georgia and many other countries of the world.

If you want less wars then that is exactly what should be done. Much of the strife in Africa comes from the artificial borders drawn by foreign powers which did not take ethnicity, culture, religion, and language into consideration. Rwanda and Sudan are to examples of nations who do not have realistic borders. In the former USSR and Yugoslavia the borders are leftover from the communist times and were drawn on the divide and conquer basis and are the reason for the post-communist ethnic conflicts. The biggest mistake ever was accepting these internal communist administrative borders as new international ones.

My knowledge of history probably isn’t as astute as some of those here. It sure appears though, that Russia never changed from the hard core communist stance its always had, they just went for a new appearance to fool the world. They appear as communist as they ever were, and as hard core. They’ll never change or make choices other than as communists.

Sure hope we have support in place for Georgia, and Israel.

“Sure hope we have support in place for Georgia, and Israel.”

So we already have our hands between two sets of pitbulls in the Middle East, and you want us to stick our hands between another set in Europe? I say let the rest of Europe assist Georgia. We’ve got enough on our hands.

So war is now peace and conducting war is now peace keeping.

War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength

Meanwhile, the rest of the world concentrates on Beach Volleyball in the pollution cesspool of Beijing.

“At least Russians are trying to stabilize the region”

Is it true that Georgia has been sabotaging their economy and Russia has been sending them aid?

Good luck with that.

How about we say there will be snow in Kuwait tonight?

Georgia has proved itself an ally of the United States. OUR Marines were bombed at that base too.

This country used to be occupied by Americans.

well guess what, Texas, New Mexico and California were once part of Mexico and inhabited by Hispanics.

Actually, in the few years Mexico had technical ownership of the southwest they were never able to settle or establish governmental control. The settlers in those areas were Spaniards who were quite willing to unite with the U.S.

Yes. This is correct. This was defacto situation. But dejure they were Mexican for a time. You are entirely correct, but my point is that we can’t revert history and start giving away lands and nation piece by piece until the “original” chaotic situation is reinstalled.
