ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards has reacted to the news of her husband's affair, posting a blog titled "Today" on the liberal Daily Kos website and asking for privacy for her family.
In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes.
She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life, writing, "the toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown."
She disputes the National Enquirer allegations that her husband fathered a child outside of their marriage.
The Elizabeth Edwards blog on Daily Kos reads: "Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some most recently caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
"John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007.

Art: “But the Senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity.”
Life: “But the Senator, while insisting the child was not his, could not explain his presence there.”
Perhaps.
On the other hand, the press now has some red meat, and I think he has now pixxed off so many former campaign and DNC people who carried his water for so long, they may not support letting it go.
This may go on until he comes completely clean. Which there are no reasonable circumstances he would have been snuck into one of two Beverly Hilton hotel rooms from 10PM ot 2AM, (I didnt know they rented rooms by the hour) just to see his friend’s mistress and baby.
Too bad for John - that baby looks like him, too!
In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes. She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life...I don't think the National Enquirer counts as 'news media', and furthermore, if the NE knew about the affair, it couldn't have been much of a secret. More to the point, it *is* our business if the lying scummy bastard wants to run for office.
Maybe she somehow blames the cancer on the hormone treatments to have the 2 younger children and maybe she was the one to have pushed for that. She may also blame his subsequent affair on this the fact that she was ill and also overweight, the overweight may have again occurred due to the late pregnancies and hormone treatment, I cannot remember seeing photos of her prior to that treatment.
The fact remains of course if her illness and weight did contribute to him having an affair shows how shallow and unqualified he is to be President.
The biggest problem though I see with this argument is the today's climate and attitudes towards marriage and morals in general. It will be difficult in a few years time to choose a candidate on either side who does not have something similar in their past, in fact in this round the majority of the Republican candidates were on second and third wives. Actually I may have got it wrong but I think on the Dem side only the space alien had been divorced. Of course divorce is only half of the story because as with the Clintons one can remain married but live separate lives.
Also one can have many affairs and treat men/women badly in between marriages as well so on moral grounds alone I think everyone with moral convictions in the next few years will have a tough time picking candidates. I was saying on another thread that I do not care for the French President whereas I have come across many on this board that like him. The more I think about it, it is not the British wariness of the French but on moral grounds there is no doubt he is a womanizer who made a pact with a previous wife when elected for her to act as consort. This did not work out for whatever reasons and I suspect they were on both sides so he manages to persuade the girlfriend to marry him. The morals of an ally cat seems to be phrase that comes to mind.
I can remember as a teenager the consternation in Britain that the US might pick a President (Reagan) that had been divorced and that Britain might have a PM (Thatcher) who was married to a man who had been divorced, my how times have changed and incidentally of course those 2 people were the best leaders for their countries for decades and many say in their living memory.
Jeri Ryan? She must be important to you but I have no idea...unless she was married to Ryan the crook RINO of Illinois...?
If that’s who she is then good riddance.
Edwards volunteered for a paternity test. I say ABCnews should pay and the RNC should also get an independent verification done.
ah, but he has nice hair ! :)
“He also ran for President in 2004 that is how he got choosen as VP candidate for Kerry”
I remember seeing Kerry’s finger’s in Edwards’ hair. I’m almost relieved to learn that Edwards is straight.
“ah, but he has nice hair ! :)’
Kerry thought so too if I recall.
The 2007 cancer was a relapse. Mrs. Edwards had her first bout with breat cancer in 2004, diagnosed right after the 2004 elections.
