Good luck Georgia. I’ll be honest, I haven’t followed the Georgian region close at all, so other than thinking Russia shouldn’t get involved, that’s about my only thoughts on this.

MY TAKE:

Good luck Georgia. I’ll be honest, I haven’t followed the Georgian region close at all, so other than thinking the UNITED STATES shouldn’t get involved, that’s about my only thoughts on this.

That’s because Russia is trying to annex the province and gave them the passports. Georgia was too weak to go against it.

The mishandling of Kosovo by the Clinton administration and the final recognition of the Kosovars by Bush's people were lessons everyone learned. Over at State, they said they weren't setting a bad precedent, yet everyone with half a brain and her sister knew it.

How soon now before Nagorno-Karabakh tries to make its move?

No doubt Bush has given Putin the green light for this - in return for ??? Maybe Iran???

Now that is a very interesting thought.

No, it is not fear. I have been rethinking the US commitments overseas and reading some libertarian writers. I guess I agree with them, we dont need to be policing the world. I dont need to be financing the policing of the world. It is time to walk away from Chaos-stan and let them fight their own battles. It is time to man the States in a defensive posture.

It is a world game. We have been sitting at the table for a hundred years, you don’t just pick up your chips and throw in your cards because you don’t like the game. I will never understand you head in the sand isolationist.

Lots of truth there.

As a Lutheran I am praying for this to end also. I told my boss “Hopefully tomorrow everyone wakes up, has a drink, and goes home”.

I have been a big interventionist up til the past couple of weeks. My head has not been in the sand. I just think we are making things worse that are not of our concern. Chaos-stan is not ours and the conflicts are centuries old. We will add nothing to it. Time for us to learn how to fight like the Swiss and focus on significant defense measures.

HISTORICAL NOTE: The farthest point of German advance in to the Caucus region was 5 miles west of GORI along the Kura river.

Didn't realize they got that far.

Our credit is overextended, our military is tired and the American public will not stomach more military adventures. To engage in another foreign adventure, despite many justifiable reasons, would be the height of folly.

Stop with that reality-talk! All we have to do is wave the flag some more and we can avoid any consequences to our actions... after all, Americans won't mind spending another $20,000 per family, like we have on Iraq.

“Plus Georgia Attacked. Aggressors.”

Who did Georgia attack? Not Russia. Georgia acted within its sovereign borders. Russia entered and attacked Georgia within Georgian borders.

This is Sudentenland redux. Plus oil.

Has there been a “military exercise” over there recently?

Considering the footage, you can lower some of those Georgian Forces numbers.

Cheers!

Russia entered and attacked Georgia within Georgian borders.

Georgia dealt with a breakaway province within its own sovereign territory exactly as Serbia did Kosovo, yet we showed those awful Serbs by backing the Kosovars. It seems we also taught the South Ossetians well: if you want to breakaway from your sovereign government, find a large sponsor...just like the Kosovars did.

The Chickens are coming home to roost. EVERYONE except the half-witted Bush administration, saw that recognition of Kosovo would help set this off.

Just so you know, we also do have troops in Georgia advising the Georgian military. May God look out for them.

I remember the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon game from 2002. It predicted this.

“Eastern Europe, 2008
The world teeters on the brink of war. Radical ultranationalists have seized power in Moscow - their goal, the reestablishment of the old Soviet empire. Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan - one by onne the nearby independent republics slip back into the Russian orbit. Russian tanks sit in the Caucasus Mountains and the Baltic forests, poised to strike to the south and east. The world hold its breath, and waits.”

Keep digging Nacho Dove. Wow you are so incredibly smart... NOT. Let's toss the Georgians because a century ago one of them turned out become Stalin!

I half expected N.H. to respond: "Yeah, but Jimmy Carter came from Georgia!"
