Group Plans Campaign Against G.O.P. Donors
New York Times ^ | August 7, 2008 | Michael Luo

Posted on 08/08/2008 5:24:53 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Nearly 10,000 of the biggest donors to Republican candidates and causes across the country will probably receive a foreboding “warning” letter in the mail next week.

The letter is an opening shot across the bow from an unusual new outside political group on the left that is poised to engage in hardball tactics to prevent similar groups on the right from getting off the ground this fall.

Led by Tom Matzzie, a liberal political operative who has been involved with some prominent left-wing efforts in recent years, the newly formed nonprofit group, Accountable America, is planning to confront donors to conservative groups, hoping to create a chilling effect that will dry up contributions.

“We want to stop the Swift Boating before it gets off the ground,” said Mr. Matzzie, who described his effort as “going for the jugular.”

The warning letter is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives.

The group is also hoping to be able to respond if an outside conservative group broadcasts a television advertisement attacking Senator Barack Obama, or another Democratic candidate, by running commercials exposing the donors behind the advertisements.

Judd Legum, who was the research director for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign, has signed on to play the same role for Accountable America.

My God, just how MANY of these liberal groups exist? It seems like a new one pops up every five minutes! Do our tax dollars go to support them? Can we cut them off if they are, make them swim on their own? Or is it Soros-funded?

Jerome Corsi and Bob Beckel were on F&F this morning, talking about Dr. Cosrsi’s book. bob was not attacking Dr. Corsi this time, but he did say they (the osamabama camp) would not let it go by without a challenge. Of course, he had no facts that would refute anything, but tried anyway.

I guess these pinheads are also too stupid to realize that, among 10,000 people who can afford to give thousands of dollars to GOP candidates, there are going to be a large number of persons with enough money to hire lawyers to give Mazzie a complete protological exam of his own. Under oath.

Every time I see the compound word "swiftboating" as a verb, I know the writer or speaker is either dumb as a box of rocks or a lying *sshole. In the case of Tim, I'm fairly certain it is lying *sshole.

I've known John Kerry since he was 19 years old. He was a self-promoting blowhard, social climber, snob and snot when I first met him at Yale. He is the same today, except he has more wrinkles and much more money, which he got the old-fashiioned way, he married it.

Any objective analysis of Kerry's military career shows it is a tissue of lies on a backdrop of accurate dates when he went in-country, and when he left. The Swiftboat veterans told the truth about Kerry, and it was enough to defeat Kerry's lies about Kerry.

Right now, there is an effort to expose the truth about Obama. There is enough bad stuff in Obama's career, such as it is, to sink his candidacy, just like the truth sank Kerry. If "swiftboating" is used properly as a verb, it means to expose the truth about a candidate, to the detriment of his/her campaign. Using that new verb correctly, it is not just useful but essential, that Obama should be swift-boated in 2008.

And the his/her alternative in the last paragraph was not just rhetorical. Hillary Clinton is still lurking under a wet rock, her campaign only "suspended," in the hopes that Obama may yet crash and burn before he is formally chosen at the Convention. If Hillary reenters the picture, she should not only be swiftboated, she should be keelhauled, and then tested with a dunking stool to see if she's a witch.

As for this Tim person, who the H*ll is he? A nobody who will probably accomplish the reverse of what he seeks. His nasty effort is more likely to fire people up, than to back them off.

If the McCain people and the RNC are smart they will take this article and put it into an ad showing just what evil is part of the OBAMA campaign. Tell the world - “we are the thought police and we will dig into your life and attack you for Free Speach we don’t like.” - that should drop the RATS in every politcal class like a stone. A Republican landslide by showing the Thought Police at work.

I’m sure DougfromUpland will post his copy.

This dovetails well with Obama’s “National Civil Security Force” plans.

Now that the “Obama Youth” have been organized; they will have to make the tough decision on whether to issue brown shirts or black.
