Despite New York's political reputation as Democratic stronghold, the head of Sen. John McCain's Empire State presidential campaign team believes the Arizona Republican can win the state, including Upstate and Western New York.
Edward Cox, a partner in the New York law firm of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler and son-in-law of former President Nixon, made that prediction during a meeting at Business First.

Not a chance.
And monkeys could fly out of my butt.
I’d like to see McCain take California. There’s a lot of red in that state.

Obama’s going to have a tough time with the Jewish vote.
I suspect Obama could be caught on tape kicking puppies and he would still take CA and NY, and pick up at least 45% nationally.
People will ridicule this, but it is actually possible for various reasons, some of which are ethnic and cultural. There are a number of Hillary supporters who are seriously ticked off, and there is a strong racial divide that has emerged in the Democrat party.
Geraldine Ferraro, on Fox News today, sounded an awful lot like a McCain supporter, despite her weak protestations to the contrary.
McCain has always appealed to the wishy-washy as well, and they make up a significant portion of the electorate, especially in the Northeast.
Only if the Space Alien from Weekly World News endorses him. I know that the paper folded but I assume the Space Alien is still around somewhere. And getting Bat Boy's endorsement might help in the Ithica area.
McCain will not have the money to blow in lost causes like New York. He needs to concentrate on Pennsylvania and Michigan, those are winnable.
NYMEX wholesale heating oil for November delivery was $4.0620/gallon today. If New Yorkers like buying 15 gallons of gasoline at these prices, they're gonna love filling a 300 gallon tank during the heating oil season! (And "We can't drill our way out of this.")
I chatted with a lovely woman sporting a large McCain button on the Upper East Side yesterday...you never know. ;)
Obama's Muslim background...well, it ain't gonna help Obama.
McCain would be a fool to spend what little money he has on NY.
Do yah think?
If he doesn't win Upstate and Western New York, he isn't going to win anywhere. He can only win enough votes in the City to have a chance if he wins over a significant number of union voters (not going to happen) or Jewish voters (not going to happen.)
You're money is going to be limited, John. Please don't waste it on New York or California. Bush lost PA by only 75,000 votes, he lost NY by almost twenty times that margin. You've got lots of Bitter Clingers in PA. If you win PA, OH, and WV, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Middle-Named will have a VERY hard time winning the Electoral College. NY is a pipe dream. Don't let your ego and bad advice from your NY campaign lead you astray. There's NO WAY you can win the Empire State.
Liberals do well in New York, McCain should do very well there.
McCain truly does have a chance of routing Obama on November 4, but McCain seems to run like he WANTS to lose. McCain could be cleaning Obama’s clock if he would truly stop being such a wuss and actually fight, fight, FIGHT! I would rather have a “do over” on the Republican side, because McCain is truly the worst Republican Presidential candidate in my lifetime.
Interesting since Ed Cox is the son-in-law of Richard Nixon - being married to Trisha Nixon. Didn’t Julie Nixon Eisenhower come out for Obama? She must have been on hallucinogens when she did that.
