In his ABC interview last Monday, for example, Obama attacked the Bush approach on fighting terror. He claimed that, in the case of "the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in US prisons, incapacitated."

That wasn't a gaffe. Dems on the Left have always treated and wanted to treat terrorism like bank robbery. They are genetically programmed to distrust and avoid military solutions because to agree with a military solution has the potential of upsetting their entire worldview which was formed by their opposition to VietNam.

They see Nam, not as a failed policy, but as an example of the horror(in their view) of ever resorting to force in the international sphere. To foster successful military action calls that world view into question, and implies that they may have been wrong about the one central event in their lives, opposition to the war in Vietnam. They cannot ever go there.
