Dear Freepers: It is Time to Support John McCain
June 5 2008 | jveritas

Posted on 06/05/2008 6:25:12 PM PDT by jveritas

In this election we have very a clear choice to make.

A choice between Victory against Islamic Terrorism or surrender to our terrorist enemy.

A choice between free market capitalist economy or socialism.

A choice between constructionist judges or liberal judges who legislate from the bench.

A choice between Life for the unborn or abortion on demand going wild.

A choice between lower taxes or higher taxes.

A choice between small government or big government.

A choice between John McCain or Barack Obama.

Let us choose John McCain. A Patriot, a war hero, and would be an excellent President.

God Bless America and our brave troops.

“Because it’s the most overused booogeyman phrase of this decade”

No, not a boogyman at all. That’s especially clear in a post 9/11 world. Especially in regards to this election. Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, who’s publicly stated goal is America’s destruction, has already stated their plan is to ‘fill the void’, should we leave Iraq. And al-Qaeda intends on using Iraq as the center of their caliphate to launch more terror attacks on America. Obama wants to appease these enemies, McCain wants to continue to fight these enemies.

“The problem with your “Guilt Trip” approach “

Um, - - - I think you’re addressing the wrong person. I’m not on a “guilt trip” - I’m simply being pragmatic. Vote for the lesser of the evils if you don’t want the greater evil. This is the real world, PSYCH-FREEP.

“Next you will be telling me that he is really a low tax and small government guy “

Well, compared to Obama, yes. He did, after all, vote against the tax hikes of Clinton and GHW Bush, along with voting against hundreds of millions in pork barrel spending.

“and grants them the protections of the American Legal system”

Actually, he voted in favor of barring the terrorists access to our courts. It was Obama that voted against this.

McCain was one of the most vocal and vociferous advocates in the Senate for both Roberts and Alito.

Late last year he was asked in a panel interview what kind of Justices he would appoint. Almost musingly he said that they would definately be like Roberts with a conservative record that speaks for itself. Almost as an afterthought he added that they probably would not be like Alito who wore his conservativism on his sleeve.

At no time did he oppose either and he helped both in their confirmation. Later, he could not recall the Alito sentiment so it probably was a spur-of-the-moment observation.

I only dealt with him on the illegal immigrant threads. He was offensive, insulting and contridicted himself.

I was warned off by others. They said he baited people into going over the line in order to get them banned.

We're like one big disfunctional family.

Do we have a strange uncle who lives in the attic like Obama?

Hey bert. Give it up. You must have flunked psych 101.

Your tagline and all the guilt ridden manuevers to shame for McCain only make people more against him. It is tough to get a conservative to vote for a Democrat like McCain. If people do end up voting for the old man, they will certainly not feel good about it. Sometimes you have to accept that is the best you are going to get.

Face it, McCain is not a popular candidate. Some people will vote for him even though he stinks, others won’t.

It seems the McCain folks are the bitter ones because they are ineffective in getting any kind of big support for McCain. It ain’t your fault, it is McCain. You guys try and then he opens his little mealy mouth.

Most people would rather have a root canal and an anal probe rather than think about voting for McCain.

“A vote for McCain in 2008 is a vote for liberalism in 2012. “

Exactly. You get more of what you subsidize.

I know that McCain is not a popular candidate. He is however, and most importantly, the Republican candidate. We did not have a conservative with the stature to beat him.

You are not really correct. There was a poll of Free Republic voters and 70% said they would vote for McCain although many did it with held noses.

The psychology is real. There is guilt, similar to liberal perpetual guilt, existing among those who favor Obama by default that makes them unable to consider McCain.

Voting for McCain is not a sin. When the hell of the Obama messiah is considered, McCain is only salvation

Never look at McCain as salvation. He is certainly not salvation.

What I said was true, McCain is a terrible candidate. Maybe not for Hillary voters or some Democrats. I am conservative before I am Republican. If the GOP cannot do any better than McCain, they can no longer count on default to secure votes. Conservatives are really worn out with the GOP expecting them to vote GOP while pushing liberal candidates. It is fine if that is what the GOP wishes to do, but they should never count on conservative votes like Dems do black voters.

I understand alll you say. It is a copout.

If you don’t vote for the Republican candidate you allow Obama by default.

Look, I don’t think the GOP plans on too many conservative voters this time around. Maybe McCain will make up for dumping conservatives by gaining Hillary shrews and independents.

That seems to be his plan.

You are so very right in stating he understands what is torture. Thank you for affirming my post as noted below.

Terrorists are unresponsive to direct questioning and psychological gambits. Interrogators need all stress and coercion techniques our military encounters in survival schools. McCain embraces liberal orthodoxy considering those methods torture, even though his searing experiences call forth contrary insights he ignores. He thereby ensures information vital to defeat terrorists remains sacred and unobtainable.

McCain continually seeks popular advancement by placating those coveting luxurious morality requiring shelter from hard choices and danger awareness. His crime is repudiating military and intelligence professionals facing hard choices when confronting shrewd, ruthless enemies obscured behind frightening uncertainties.

It was my understanding that Dane was actually a female.

We called her on it, after some poster claimed to know her in person.
There were times - especially around the McCain/Kennedy amnesty voting - that she would post 30 or 40 posts a day, and then ping everyone who disagreed with her position on the matter, to the thread and then never replied to anything at all.

LOL! Yes, thats the ticket. Freaking brilliant!

Maybe you should start a forum entitled Free Republican, rather than the Free Republic and then you, like McCain, won't have to worry about those pesky conservative principles at all.

JR won't mind - he knows exactly who and what McCain is. - so do we

Freepers have two choices:

1: vote for McCain
or
2: vote for socialism, higher taxes and curtailed liberty.

Actually, judging from the candidates, the choices are:

1. vote for socialism, higher taxes, and curtailed liberty,
or
2. vote for more socialism, higher taxes, and curtailed liberty.

Two peas of a pod - vote for the pea which offends you the least. McCain made his bed with his history of "reaching accross the aisle" - you don't reach out to your enemies; you defeat them.

A choice between a RINO in 2008 or a Conservative in 2012. I’ll hold out, thank you.
