Dear Freepers: It is Time to Support John McCain
June 5 2008 | jveritas

Posted on 06/05/2008 6:25:12 PM PDT by jveritas

In this election we have very a clear choice to make.

A choice between Victory against Islamic Terrorism or surrender to our terrorist enemy.

A choice between free market capitalist economy or socialism.

A choice between constructionist judges or liberal judges who legislate from the bench.

A choice between Life for the unborn or abortion on demand going wild.

A choice between lower taxes or higher taxes.

A choice between small government or big government.

A choice between John McCain or Barack Obama.

Let us choose John McCain. A Patriot, a war hero, and would be an excellent President.

God Bless America and our brave troops.

Sorry... I’m having trouble finding the old links from during the confirmation when he said this. Below is something close, but all I’m seeing in the search engine at the moment is McCain vs. Obama on what they say now. I will keep looking.

John Fund wrote in the Wall Street Journal that McCain has said he was happy with John Roberts, but might “draw the line on a Samuel Alito, because ‘he wore his conservatism on his sleeve.’” While the McCain campaign vigorously denied the allegation, Robert Novak confirmed it in his column using different sources. In a private chat with conservative jurists, one lawyer asked McCain, “Wouldn’t it be great if you get a chance to name somebody like Roberts and Alito?” McCain answered, “Well, certainly Roberts,” before expressing his doubts about Alito to his shocked audience.

Stop blaming McCain for bipartisanship. We are the party that moves very carefully. That's the point. Sheesh.

Souter was recommended for the court by Bush's buddy John Sununu, not by McCain.

I have been arguing for a while on FR that John Sununu Jr. is damanged goods and a useless party hack that will lose to Shaheen in the fall, but it's fallen on death ears (ironically, the hypocrite Sununu's sole reason for electing him in 2002 was that "Bob Smith can't beat Shaheen")

McCain is going to lose so badly it's not even funny. The Democrats are pumped to elect their Socialist, America-hating king. Absolutely nobody is excited about John McCain.

It's all about charisma these days, issues be damned. If you don't have it, you're not getting elected.

Sorry, but the ACU ratings is not the holy grail ... it’s only value is for comparisons. I rarely if ever pay any attention to any of the advocacy groups’ ratings. One need only look at a Member’s ACU rating .. add his/her ADA rating and, voila!, you get 100%. That’s pretty much how it works. It’s what we in Virginia like to call macaca.

If you really want to know about any given Member, look up his or her voting record, and in particular his/her votes on those issues that matter most to you. For more detail about any Member(s) look at Barone’s Almanac of American Politics.

>> The majority of issues? And how on earth would you know this? ACU doesn’t consider the majority of issues. It constantly ignores the most important votes and focuses on minor ones. It doesn’t even penalize anyone for missing votes. <<

I know this because there are well over a dozen well regarded conservative organizations out there who study Congressional voting records each year, and they all report McCain supports their issues 70-80% of the time each year. Are you that arrogant to think you know McCain better than these lobbyist groups who go to D.C. and study him for a living? Do they think they're all "inaccurately" reporting his record and only looking up "minor" voters and missing his evil liberal plans? Maybe you could start your own conservative organization and show them how wrong they all are.

You can go on over ProjectVoteSmart.com and click on "issue ratings" if you want to view hundreds of scorecards McCain has received from watchdog groups over the years, or if you insist on it, I can post several pages of his scores right here on FR. I would prefer not to do that as you seem to be one of those freepers who is not interested in facts that show different data than your talking points about a politician.

My candidate was Duncan Hunter and McCain low on my list.
BUT
However you look at it, Marxist Obama vs McCain.
McCain believes in winning the war and has respect for the Military.

For those who want to punish the Republican party and America by ensuring an Obama victory thinking we will get
a conservative next time - There won’t be a next time.

We are in different time and a different enemy and capabilities.

The Third Party folks are anti war, so don’t care if we win anyways. They use the excuse for a third party to ensure Obama’s victory rather than vote for him directly.

They use various excuses re their hate for McCain rather than be honest and up front re their anti war views that Bobby “ACLU” Barr and L Ron Paul hold as well as Obama.

Dear jveritas = this has been a most depressing thread. I keep checking to make sure I didn't mislink to a DU site. I have long suspicioned that there may be a lot of moles/sleepers in FR ever since they got beat up so bad in 2000...There certainly seems to be a lot of DU type posting when we get close to elections now.

They certainly gave us the demRat Senate last time with their Johny One Note "BORDERBORDERBORDER" mantra as though that was the ONLY issue on the board. I am going to hope that a lot of these posters here tonight are actually DU moles/sleepers and not indicative of republican voters. Certainly there seems to be a frightening lack of understanding of history and just what Marxism/Communism is...and a naivete in thinking it could never happen here. That said: Thank you for your post. You give me hope ...

I wasn’t blaming McQueeg for bipartisanship. I was saying that ACU ratings are a lousy measure of a politician’s conservatism.

You haven't made that point. The ACU ratings are pretty good at measuring a pols conservatism.
