Dear Freepers: It is Time to Support John McCain
June 5 2008 | jveritas

Posted on 06/05/2008 6:25:12 PM PDT by jveritas

In this election we have very a clear choice to make.

A choice between Victory against Islamic Terrorism or surrender to our terrorist enemy.

A choice between free market capitalist economy or socialism.

A choice between constructionist judges or liberal judges who legislate from the bench.

A choice between Life for the unborn or abortion on demand going wild.

A choice between lower taxes or higher taxes.

A choice between small government or big government.

A choice between John McCain or Barack Obama.

Let us choose John McCain. A Patriot, a war hero, and would be an excellent President.

God Bless America and our brave troops.

Something is seriously wrong with the people at ACU. They simply don’t know what they’re doing.

Not to worry...maybe they're just mavericks.

In this election we have very a clear choice to make.
***We had a very clear choice when there was a strong conservative in the race. FR is a conservative forum, not a republican one. Conservatives simply have no dog in this hunt.

Best of luck with your candidate, though. He’s going to need it.

Dear JustaDumbBlonde,

“Guiliani never had a chance...”

Gee, and all he did was run in front in the polls for months and months. Go figure.

Mr. Giuliani would have had a much better chance with a different strategy, and frankly, Sen. McCain came within a hair's breath of being where Mr. Giuliani is today - NOT THE NOMINEE.

Ah, so you use a straw man to refute my attack on jveritas’ straw man? I never compared McCain to Chafee. As for the ACU rating, since when do they get to decide who is and is not a conservative? As I understand it, they simply pick what they consider the conservative position on a vote and record whether or not the senator voted for it. So, McCain could vote for an abomination like comprehensive immigration reform yet maintain a high ACU rating by voting with conservatives on several minor bills. Sorry, I think for myself and don’t just suck up McCain PR.

That’s good. No fight intended, but Obama through 2012 can’t be overcome.

Dear JustaDumbBlonde,

He chose a losing strategy.

A different one may have had a different ending.

We don't really know, and anyone who claims to know is claiming something that they can't know.

I have read this entire thread from top to bottom.

Please explain to me one GOOD reason to vote FOR McCain instead of all these reasons because of Obama, including Iraq!

McCain has not givin anyone a solid reason to vote for him, all I'm reading is the BAD that will happen if I DON”T vote for him!

>>> McCain changed in ‘98. Before then, he was a more “reliable” Conservative vote. Not 100% reliable, mind you, but someone I could have settled for and supported. The current McCain is entirely different. <<

Sorry, as you say, no sale. I can look up how often McCain voted conservative in those years to see if he "radically changed" by 2000 and went from being mostly reliable conservative to a slimey liberal voting with us less than half the time. Here is how often he supported the American Conservative Union from 1997 to 2000:

McCAIN, JOHN S.
1997 - 80%
1998 - 68%
1999 - 77%
2000 - 81%

Looks he had a bum year in 1998 (though he STILL managed to support us nearly 70% of the time), but the alledged "radically changed, turned leftist" McCain scored a respectable 77% in 1999 and got a conservative rating of 81% by 2000, one point higher than the "old, reliable McCain" from 1997.

Yep, no sale. Your statements don't match his voting records.

=========================================

BTW, for comparison, here's an ACTUAL example of a a "radical change":

SHELBY, RICHARD
1993 - 42%
1994 - 55%
Switches parties when GOP takes control of Congress
1995 - 91%
1996 - 90%

Choices.....we're short sheeted on choices, J.

The political drivel from the media and pollsters places Obama ahead of McPain but all this stuff is meaningless this far out.

Hillary ain't out of the picture yet. She'll do anything to kill Obama's chances for the party's candidacy.

That is where we disagree “my Friend”.

Obambi is evil in a really stupid way.

McQueeg is all about himself, just like Billy Jeff.

Obambi will be run by others who will fail to ensure his success.

Mc Queeg is hellbent on ensuring our demise.
He has the most A/B normal.. i.e.
biggest case of BDS/Small you know whattie on the Planet.

Obama is just plain ill educated as well as being a Soros puppet.

The Legislature will keep in check.

Hold on Pal, It’s gonna be a bumpy ride either way.

Who nominated him?

Why George Herbert Walker Bush, of course. The history, which I'm sure you recall, was his fear that a true conservative nominee would get "Borked," he offered up 145 pounds of pablum.

Please remember McCain's own words, when he said that he might not be able to support Samuel Alito because "he wears his conservatism on his sleeve."

>> I never compared McCain to Chafee. <<

You claimed McCain votes with us less than 50% of the time. IF that were true, his voting record would be compariable to Chafee (though Chafee is really really liberal, he had an ACU rating of 16%, so a more accurate comparison would be that McCain would be an Arlen Specter clone, as Specter votes "with us" about 42% of time)

Since I know McCain is nowhere near as liberal as Specter, your argument is false, ACU ratings or not.

Furthermore, I can probably find half a dozen DIFFERENT conservative organizations (not single issue organizations like say, Americans for Immigration Reform) that rank members of Congress, and McCain will score well over 50% "with us" on ALL of them.

Your allegations claiming we don't get McCain to support at least 50% of our positions is simply false. McCain votes like a DemocRAT on a handful of issues like immigration and ANWR, but on the majority of issues out there, he supports the conservative position.
