Mob Of Men Attack, Rob Motorist POSTED: 2:56 pm EDT June 2, 2008

WARREN, Mich. -- Police said 20 to 30 men who brutally attacked and robbed a motorist Saturday night may also be responsible for several other violent crimes that took place the same day.

Four people were taken into custody for questioning after a motorist was beaten unconscious.

Police said the incident took place when Andy Kauffman, 29, and his wife, Angelina, were driving on North River Road when more than two dozen men wearing ball caps and baggy shorts spread out across the street and blocked traffic.

Kauffman tried to drive past them and someone threw a brick in his window. Kauffman stopped his car and got out to see what happened.

"At that point at least 12 of the subjects jumped on him, beating and kicking him several times to the point where he was unconscious," Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said. "A second man then got out of the car and also was attacked, but not nearly as bad as the first individual."

A short time later, police were called to a gas station nearby for a fight.

A man who was using the pay phone was beaten. He was not seriously injured, police said.

Police said there were several incidents within a few hours and they fear the same group of attackers was involved.

Anyone with information can call 586-469-5151.

My only problem with that is, then I can't cock the hammer when I want one of those very well aimed, squeezed off cocked-hammer, single action revolver shots.... which is why I might have a wheel gun in the first place...

Actually, nothing against revolvers, it's just that one night in RVN, after some serious drinking, I had this very bad dream that the PAVN were coming through the concertina wire and I pulled the trigger on a revolver, and the cylinder remained still and I revolved....

Be well.

You are determined to be right, so, I’ll let you have the last word. I made a simple comment, you took it as something you had to win. Enough for me. I proclaim you winner.

Now you are getting into one of my favorite subjects. Practicing close up shooting. Night or day, I love it. I don’t use my sights and generally my wrist is against my stomach when I am pulling the trigger, with my left shoulder pointed at the target. My left hand is above my nipple and generally close in to my shoulder. Sometimes holding the holster other times extended away from my shoulder.

This model shoulder holster is ideal because I don’t have to move my hand more than six inches to clear it. http://www.c-rusty.com/pages/holsters/large/brownshoe.htm If push comes to shove I’ll shoot through the jacket or vest that I am wearing.

I also have a couple of lightweight jackets that have been sprayed with a fire retardent to keep the cylinder and muzzle flash from igniting them. I’ll use them for practice shooting without removing the revolver from the pocket or to shoot through the side flap.

Squeezing off two shots as fast as possible is not as easy as most folks think it is.

That shooting style sounds close to CAR (Center Axis Relock). If you are not familiar with it, Google or YouTube “Paul Castle” and “Center Axis Relock”. It’s a far cry from Weaver or isosceles.

Yeah. :-) You know-what-I-mean. :-) Practicing close up shooting is a lot of fun! ...and "practical". Sometimes, we'll do "shoot - don't shoot" drills. GoodWill is a GOOD place to get "practice outerwear" for shooting through, and you've made a GOOD point about setting yourself on fire! One of my boys didn't realize he was "smoldering" until we were back in the vehicle!

We don't do much "stress shooting" because it tends to just make people mad. :-) But we do introduce failure. I've got a couple of poorly made 1911 mags that we keep for the sole reason that they'll seriously malfunction somewhere during the last four rounds. Also, we keep "dummies" (a casing with ONLY a bullet seated in it) which we'll load into a mag (you get your buddy to load your mags so you don't know what's going to happen!) and FORCE the shooter to go through a clearing drill.

Most shooters realize they're in deep trouble when we do a "live" drill and introduce a malfunction. The solution is simple really, but people just don't think clearly when they panic. The solution is to run like a second grade girl!...while clearing and reloading! But most just stand there PANICKED...and while they're fumbling, that bad ole cardboard target bumps up against them and they're "dead". :-)

An FBI agent in Ventura taught the basics to me many, many, many years ago. I don’t think it had a name back then. I have made many little additions to cover every situation that I could think of. I have noticed that if I am at an indoor range, I seem to be the only one using that method. Isn’t it taught anymore?

Actually, it's Harrison Twp. if you're talking about the south side of N. River Rd.

Actually we're not but thanks for the nit picking...........On the other side of the river is a road called "South River Rd." The south side of the river is precisely that, Harrison Twp. The Gibraltar Trade Center is Mt. Clemens, the Mt. Clemens Racquet Club and softball/bar/and bowling complex down the rd. is Mt. Clemens and the entire stretch of highway between Gratiot and the trade center is Mt. Clemens.

How do I know? I lived in the neighborhood for almost 25 years and regularly frequent the bars in downtown Mt. Clemens and attend the weekly summer fireworks displays.

Tell you what tho, if you want to to demand that its Harrison Twp., then we'll call it Harrison Twp...........

I watched a supposedly well trained man, who at the time was my senior by about 20 years, drop a magazine out of his 1911 onto the ground as he withdrew it out of his holster. He never saw it happen and it took him at least 30 seconds to determine what the problem was and reload another magazine. Then he forgot to rack the slide as he took aim, then flustered again, he finally fired one shot into the winch on the back of my bulldozer. In the meantime I had already started settling the score with my M-14. Not his best day, to be sure. LOL Then again it wasn’t his worst because he didn’t get shot either.

That single incident convinced me that training was something never to be neglected. It also taught me that semi auto handguns weren’t all they were bragged out to be. Damaged magazines, safties, racking the slide, there’s a lot of steps to remember and when TSHTF I prefer not to be waylayed trying to remember what I did or didn’t do in the heat of the moment. Thank you, I like my little Chiefs Special that has never jammed or failed to discharge an empty casing because of a worn ejector. I’ve never had a magazine spring give out on me. I guess I just lucky, huh?

It seems to me like a babyish thing to do, to block someone's post.

That is, if HE “blocks” my posts to him, then any HE makes to me should not show up on my ping list either. Otherwise, FreeRepublic is wide open for one party to be able to seriously harass another, with the harassed party having no recourse.

I absolutely agree.

When I joined FR there was one, maybe two FReepers that I had no cyber chemistry with and we stopped posting to each other. I couldn't tell you who they were now. Shoot, we're probably posting to each other again. LOL

But blocking a post is a childish way to handle the situation.

Thanks. If a FReeper annoys me I just zoom right on past their post to me. It's called, the cold shoulder. LOL

Sorry but I forgot to mention that Selfridge ANGB is also Mt. Clemens, not Harrison Twp...........not that it really makes a difference.

FWIW, good perch fishing during ice fishing season off the public access ramp there...........Walk out in a S.E. direction about 200 yards and start drilling holes.......

I tell everybody who asks to get a GOOD “wheelgun”. They don’t malfunction! But I still carry a Series 80 .45 ACP. It’s a good weapon, however it does malfunction on the odd occasion for all the reasons you mentioned. So long as we practice, practice, practice....enough so that when the unexpected happens, we go into “act mode” based on training...everything works better. But as you’ve pointed out, too few people practice “that” much.

From what I gathered during a quick read on Google, it certainly has been refined since I learned the basics back in ‘66. There are CAR schools that train only LEO’s. I never liked the Weaver stance, even when I was target shooting.
