AOL’s headline has the story announced in such a way that his reason for quitting is that the Media are hounding the Church’s Shut-ins and he’s had “enough”.
He kills two birds with one stone with the martyr role ... he is able to distance himself from the Church, while keepin’ em’ rollin in the aisles for him.

He knew what the church represented and stuck with them all this time. I’m not really sure I believe he bought into all they sold, his membership probably had more to do with political ambition. His wife is another matter. But that he was willing to associate with it and the doctrine being preached, have his kids baptized there and seemingly being okay with his wife buying into the doctrine all for the political connections attached says everything I need to know about him.

Technical question of sorts: Are his two children who he had baptized at his now renounced hate filled church, still members? Will he have to have them rebapitized now at a more politcally acceptable church?
