The Drudge effect on the campaign Pittsburgh Tribune Review By Salena Zito Barack Obama's first mistake on Memorial Day was giving a speech that said his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz concentration camp. Since his mother, Stanley, was an only child that story was not going to hold water with reporters for long.
Obama's campaign said Tuesday the candidate meant to say that his great-Uncle, Charlie Payne, was the liberator.
And unless great-Uncle Charlie was a Russian that wasnt true either. The Red Army liberated Auschwitz in 1945, not American forces.
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton stepped in to fix that gaffe and said that Obama had mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald while telling his personal experience of a family soldier who served heroically.
When you are running on empty after over a year of hard-core campaigning, gaffes happen; they happen more often when you are putting in 18 hour barnstorms.
Hillary Clinton took hits last week for what some perceived as inappropriate Kennedy remarks when she was making a point of why the campaign should go on into the summer.
Clintons gaffe earned her top billing on The Drudge Report in blood-red print, with capital letters and bold type, with bells and music playing when you clicked on. (OK, just kidding about the bells and whistles, but you get the picture).
Obama's gaffe? Not so much. In fact, it is pretty much buried in The Drudge Report equivalent of A-13.
John McCain fares no better than Clinton on Drudge whether he is having a gaffe-day or a good day.

This guy must have just discovered Drudge's site over the weekend. Drudge routinely uses bold and red color text.
FYI, Ms. Zito...
Uncle, great uncle, Buchenwald, Auschwitz.....
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Germans?
Forget it, he's rolling.
Drudge has a ‘crush’ on Obama. There is a pattern of behavior that is crystal clear, pay attention freepers or you might get sucked in by the not so subliminal seduction.
Obama could make 3,000 mistakes between now and November and it won’t matter to those prepared to vote for him. He’s an empty suit and those voting for him are empty headed. They care not about the facts!
That Buchenwald, not Auschwitz, was liberated by the U.S. is walking-around knowledge for a man of Obama’s age and education. I bet his handlers in Moscow are not pleased.
You couldn't be more correct.
All that matters is “Change”.
The Titanic changed directions too.

I sent drudge a flaming message yesterday saying he is in the tank for Obama. I asked why the story was not even on his website when it was all over the internet. This morning it is buried on his site. I know he hates the Clintons, but I am beginning to lose respect for the guy. He is drunk on his own Kool Aid and maybe Obama’s too.
Bill Burton? Wasn’t he Dan Rather’s source for the forged documents? So, that’s where he’s gone to....the Obama campaign. I’m surprised he couldn’t document Obama’s uncle (secret white guy, unknown brother to his white mother) and document that the US Army under Patton really liberated Auschwitz. See, I have documents!
Any gaff a Republican makes has always been caught and screamed from the highest MSM roof tops... so for us, nothing has changed.
Must be a horror for dems - having their lies exposed..
I also sent a note to Drudge asking him why he is pushing the Obamessiah so hard. It’s nauseating!
The US Navy
And I take it he wasn’t a Seabee building and fighting in Europe either?
Obama has been running on empty from Day One of this campaign.
according to the Holocaust Museum and US Army, the 89th Infantry Division was given credit for liberating Ohrdruf, a subcamp of Buchenwald on 4 Apr 1945. This means that some element of the division was at the camp. The Holocaust museum and the Army do not give credit to individual regiments, battalions or companies.
